September 17…. Zac Brown Band in Concert - This Grammy Award-winning, country group is based in Atlanta, Georgia. The band has toured throughout the United States and have also recorded four studio albums and charted four #1 singles on the Billboard country charts: "Chicken Fried", "Toes", "Highway 20 Ride", and "Free," in addition to the single "Whatever It Is," which peaked at No. 2 on the same chart. September 17….Kaleidoscope of Choirs
Come and enjoy the University Choir, the University Singers, the Matador Singers, and Women's Chorale in a wide variety of musical presentations. Admission is free. Hemmle Recital Hall, Music Building on the Tech campus; 8 p.m.

September 17-18 (repeats September 24-25) ….“Heavenly Country” – This Cactus Theater production returns featuring the story of a New York Arts Critic who dies and goes to Heaven, only it's Country Music Heaven and he is in "Hell!" The music includes songs made famous by country music legends including Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Kitty Wells, Earnest Tubb, Hank Thompson, Patsy Cline George Jones and others. Heavenly Country experienced sold-out performances during its debut in June 2001 as well as during its return to the Cactus for the entire month of January 2002. It has matched box office records for other popular Cactus shows such as Always Patsy Cline and Buddy. Actors include Cactus stars, Kenny Maines, Jane Prince Jones, Kurt Kiser and a host of West Texas musical standouts. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 806.762.3233. September 17-19….Ballet Lubbock’s production of “Ragtime”

The Ballet Lubbock Company kicks off its 2010-2011 performance season with Ragtime, an original ballet choreographed by Yvonne Racz Key set to the music of Scott Joplin. With live accompaniment by accomplished pianist Mark Morton, fantastic costumes, and inspiring and often humorous choreography, Ragtime will entertain audiences of all ages. With original choreography by Genevieve Durham, Jennifer Crosson, and Ballet Lubbock Company member Katerina DeLawyer, Ragtime also features a program of diverse works including styles in modern and jazz. Charlie Baker has this chance when he goes to an old fishing lodge in rural Georgia and pretends he is a "foreigner' and can’t speak or understand a word of English. The problem is since he can’t communicate, everyone at the lodge thinks he is fair game to confide in with their most intimate secrets. (poorly worded) American playwright Larry Shue mixes laughter and poignancy in this comedy about the equality of all humans. Rating: Comedy: Family Fare. September 18….40th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival – Come and join in the fun for the entire family! This annual event includes arts & crafts, exhibits, kid’s area, demonstrations, entertainment, and food. Admission is free and there is free parking and trolley service from Clapp Swimming Pool and Hodges Center parking lots. Hodges Community Center, 44th and University; 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.

September 18….Country Western Dance - The Lubbock Area Square and Round Dance Federation will sponsor a dance featuring Lonnie Joe and the Hot Texas Band. No alcohol and smoke-free building. Donations benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. LASRD Building, 2305 PR 7330 (which simply means roughly a block east of University Avenue on 120th St.); 7 p.m.- 10 p.m.


September 18….Red Raider College Football - Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. University of Texas Longhorns at Jones AT&T Stadium. 4th Street and University Avenue; 7 p.m.
