July 1….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series - The Buddy Holly Center is offering another hot summer of music and fun every Thursday evening. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and innovative environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. Summer Showcase 2010 is free to the public. There will be a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages or coolers are allowed. This week's featured performer is The Prairie Scholars (West Texas rock 'n' roll). Buddy Holly Center Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.

July 1…."SOS" (Adult Singles 50+) Monthly Dinner - Come and enjoy another great evening at Ruby Tequila’s. The air conditioned patio is reserved just for the Fun Club group. Dinner will include a special chicken and beef Fajita buffet with rice, beans, chips, salsa and one complimentary non-alcoholic drink all for the fantastic price of just $12 per person. July 1 and 3; (repeats July 9-10, 16-17, 30; August. 7, 13, 20-22; September 3-7)….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents: “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" – The music of Buddy Holly has been enjoyed by millions of people around the world and this show tells the story of the tragically short life of a young man from Lubbock, who - along with his high-school friends formed a band called the Crickets - turned country music upside down to create some of the best rock ‘n’ roll songs ever written. We share Buddy’s frustrations through his first recording contract; the excitement America felt when "That’ll Be The Day" hit #1; his naïve determination to be the first white act to play the Apollo Theatre in Harlem; his whirlwind romance and marriage; concluding with the ill-fated ‘Winter Dance Party’ tour of the Midwest. FRIDAY only

July 2….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues, plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. For more info and complete schedule click HERE! This continually evolving event runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.

July 2 (final performance of the season)…. Lubbock Moonlight Musicals presents: “Hello, Dolly!” – This classic stage musical won 10 Tony Awards (including Best Musical) in 1964. The play is based on Thornton Wilder’s 1938 farce “The Merchant of Yonkers,” which the author revised and re-titled “The Matchmaker” in 1955. Gerald Dolter is stage director; Jacob Miller conducts. Stars include Karen Dolter as Dolly Madison and Mike Morgan as Horace Vandergelder. For tickets call Select-A-Seat at 806.770.2000. Wells Fargo Amphitheater, in Mackenzie Park. 413 E. SATURDAY Only

July 3….4th on Broadway Festivities - The largest free festival in Texas is a true celebration of Independence Day. Featuring a fun-filled day of events for the whole family, general admission to all the events on July 3rd are FREE! Kick off the day at the opening parade down the historic, brick-paved Broadway Avenue. Following the parade, spend the day at the street fair on Broadway: a festival of fabulous musicians on 8 stages, food vendors, games and much more.

July 3….Independence Day Celebration
- Mark your calendars for the oh-so-fun Vintage Township annual Independence Day Celebration. As always, it will be on July 3rd (so as to not interfere with other activities around the city). Founders Park will turn into a water park for all sizes and ages! Don’t forget to decorate your bike, wagon, and stroller or power wheels for the community parade. There will be delicious homemade goodies, live entertainment and a special meal deal available. Uncle Sam or Martha Washington may even make a special appearance! Free and open to the public. Founders Park at Vintage Township, 114th Street between Quaker Avenue and Slide Road; 5:30 p.m.

July 3….Lubbock Apartment Association Street Dance - The Lubbock Apartment Association Street Dance will feature Texas Country headliner Josh Abbott. There will be plenty of fun with live music, dancing, food and beverages. Tickets are $10 and available at Select-A-Seat. Courthouse Square, 900 Broadway; 7:30 p.m.

July 3….Annual Buffalo Springs Lake Fireworks Show – This celebration will include a parade at 2 p.m. beginning at the marina and live music featuring Dustin Garrett & The Texas Cruisers at 6 p.m. Buy your tickets early at Ralph's Records or Buffalo Springs Lake: $6 for adults - $3 for children 11 yrs. or younger. Buffalo Springs Lake, five miles southeast of Lubbock on Farm Road 835 & East 50th Street; Fireworks show begins approximately at 9:30 p.m.

June 3-4 (series continues July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1)…. Judson Maynard Summer Carillon Series - There will be a carillon concert every Sunday evening continuing through August 1. A special concert for July 3rd (9 a.m.) is also planned in conjunction with the Fourth on Broadway celebration. Dr. Roy Wilson, adjunct professor of organ and carillon, cordially invites you to bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets to listen from the Memorial Circle north of the Administration Building. Families with children are welcome. The concerts start right after the electronic bells chime the hour and are 40-45 minutes in length. Programming will include popular songs, classical, folk music, hymns, songs for children, and original compositions for the carillon. Performance dates are as follows: June 27, Jim Quashnock; July 3, (9 a.m.) (Fourth on Broadway) Arla Jo Anderton/Roy Wilson; July 4, Judson Maynard, Denton, TX; July 11, Judson Maynard; July 18, Judson Maynard; July 25, Denise Koncelik, Wichita Falls, TX; Aug. 1, Cole Shooter, Lubbock, TX. July 4….4th On Broadway Concert and Fireworks -
Head down to beautiful Mackenzie Park where a true treat awaits. The evening concert will entertain concert-goers of all ages leading up to the fireworks extravaganza. This fireworks display lights up the night sky like no other, after all....Lubbock has more sky! Upgrade to premier seating with parking if some added convenience is in order. Tickets may be purchased through Select-A-Seat by calling 806.770.2000. For more info, call 806.749.2929. For your parking convenience, $5 parking lots are available this year on a first come, first served basis. The parking lots are located at: South Plains Fairgrounds, Canyon Drive & Broadway, Canyon Drive & Nutmeg. Mackenzie Park, (Broadway entrance); Plains Capital Bank Evening Concert: 5 p.m. - concert begins at 7:15 p.m., Gandy’s Fireworks Extravaganza begins at nightfall.

uly 4 (also July 11, 18)…. Westwinds Brass Band's Sunday Concerts in the Park - Bring your picnics, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the Westwinds Brass Band out under the stars at Wagner Park! Enjoy the evening and hear the nostalgic music while visiting with your neighbor....or meet a new one! A children's march is always included so come see what it's all about! One hour performance. No admission. Wagner Park, 26th and Elgin Avenue; 8 p.m.
