SATURDAY

February 13….Rumba Dance Lessons - In support of the Children's Miracle Network, Lubbock's oldest choreographed ballroom dance club, Tuesday Rounds will be sponsoring dance lessons, beginning this Saturday. The workshop will run for 12-13 weeks. Rumba is the easiest of all the rhythms to learn and can be danced to many country songs. The cost for the entire workshop is $40. That's about $3.00 per lesson. The first three lessons are free, and if you decide to continue for the whole workshop, they ask that you pay $40 at that time. One half of all the proceeds will go to the Children's Miracle Network. What is choreographed ballroom dancing (formerly known as "Round Dance")? Round Dancing is a form of social ballroom dancing in which the steps are choreographed precisely to the music, and those steps are announced by a "cuer," during the dance. The presence of the cuer makes a round dance look different than the usual ballroom dance — all the couples are dancing in unison and the choreography can be relatively complex and interesting (since the man doesn't have to think it up as he goes) — but otherwise round dancers are ballroom dancing. Partners are held in the normal way with the same kinds of steps. The rhythms are the familiar rhythms — waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, rumba, and others. For more info, please contact: Bob Drexler - 799-1302 - drextex99@yahoo.com or Renée Horton - 777-3404 - reneehorton@suddenlink.net. LASRDF Dance Center, 2305 120th Street; 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
