January 7….Lubbock Fun Club "SOS" Singles (Adults 50+) Monthly Dinner - Come on out and start the new year off right....meeting new friends for a great Tex-Mex buffett which includes one complimentary non-alcoholic beverage, tax and gratuity for $13.88 per person. Bring a friend or just come on your own! Meet at 6 p.m. for social time together...then plan to share a meal together at 7 p.m. The location is Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy, located at 4401 82nd Street.

FRIDAY

January 8….New Neighbors Club Style ShowOne of the members, Liz Stephenson, owner of Endless Love Wedding Shop, will present a style show and program “Traditions – Fashion For Occasions” for the general meeting. For reservations, please call Mamie Hurt at 792-8541. Cost is all-inclusive $13. Lubbock Women’s Club, 2020 Broadway; 10:30 a.m.

January 8….First Friday Art Trail -
See the regular art venues, plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you easily navigate. January 8….Rock'n '50s Rewind - This show features the monster hits that literally transformed American music in the '50s with rock'n', bopp'n' magic that will never be topped. The Cactus stars will fearlessly capture the spirit of the era....from Elvis Presley to Dinah Washington and some doo-wop in between. Starring new talent showcase standouts Keegan Peck and Kelsey Stegall with the new Cactus trio Jordan Sheets, Tarah Read and Taylor Ellison as they join your favorite Cactus stars Jason Fellers, Jeff McCreight, Jeff Bailey and The Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine. Tickets are $25.00. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7:30 p.m.

SATURDAY

January 9….Downtown Art MarketA once-a-month market held in the Tornado Gallery Garden and spreading on to Buddy Holly Avenue. The Downtown Art Market is an effort to unite artists of all genres, musicians, writers, potters, actors, painters, gardeners, chefs, cooks, singers, dancers, hackers, tinkerers, renewable energy gurus and philosophers...to buy, sell, trade, talk...even teach their arts and skills in a communal space. It is free and open to the public. This month part of the street will be closed to traffic and stands will be set up in the street. This is the first step in making the market into a full-blown street festival atmosphere. Also enjoy the strolling musicians Wade Parks and Bobby Saied. January 9….Asleep at the Wheel
- They're back! The nine-time Grammy winning "Kings of Texas Swing" return for another toe tapping concert. The band has been tearing up the Western Swing music scene for the past three decades, and there is no end in sight. They are not your typical dance band. They're an ever-changing institution, under the direction of Ray Benson, that is carrying the torch of big band Western Swing music into the 21st century. January 9-10….Silver Spur Gun and Blade Show – What is a gun show? It is a place where exhibitors come from all around to sell their wares. You can buy things, sell, or even trade guns, knives, and swords. There are lots of guns (new and used), ammo, holsters, accessories, hunting stuff, jewelry for the ladies, knives, coins, collectibles, books and military items and much, much more. Admission: $5 adults, under 12 free. Two for 1 first hour both days - $1 off active military or NRA w/ID. Only 1 discount/special can be used at a time. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane; Sat. 9 a.m.-5p.m., Sun. 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.. (Dealer Setup: Fri 12 p.m.-8 p.m. & Sat 8 a.m.- 9 a.m.)

SUNDAY

January 10….Cactus Theater Open Auditions - Calling all musicians and singers! For those who want to become a part of the Cactus magic the Cactus Theater is happy and eager to see and hear the untapped talent of Lubbock and the surrounding areas during these open auditions. Please bring your background music on CD or an instrumental accompanist. A piano will be provided. Actors please prepare a monologue. Performers selected as finalists after the auditions will perform live on stage at the Cactus Theater in the New Talent Showcase Concert January 30th. Auditions will be on a first-come/first-serve basis so make sure you come out early. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 1:30 p.m.- 4 p.m.

MONDAY

January 11….LFC Young Singles Monthly Dinner (Age Group: 30s/40s)All singles in this age group are invited to come join the fun....and be sure to bring friends to share in a meal and a good time together. Home Plate Diner, 7615 University Ave; 6:30 p.m.

January 11 (also repeats 18, 25)….Modern Western Square Dance Lessons – Solo Squares Dance Club will begin a new set of classes for 2010. Singles, couples, and teens are welcome. Free introductory nights will be Jan. 11, 18, and 25th. Square dancing is a fun and wholesome activity. Participants exercise while having fun executing choreographed routines timed to fit current popular songs. Great family environment and no smoking or drinking during the dancing. Dance your way to a healthier you. Lubbock Square and Round Dance Federation Building, 2305- 120th Street; 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
