May 15-17....Lubbock Community Theatre presents "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" -
· This theatre and film classic by Dale Wasserman tells the story of a man who tries to fight the system, but with tragic results. The award-winning Broadway classic was made into a multiple Oscar-winning film (including a win for Best Picture 1975). Rating: Drama/R-rated for adult language and situations. Directed by Connie R. May 15-17….The Garza Theatre’s production of “The Seafarer” - The West Texas premiere of a new, multiple Tony Award-nominated play by Irish playwright Conor McPherson. The theater has teamed up with the Hotel Garza to celebrate in real Irish style with dinner and staycation package deals. James "Sharky" Harkin, an alcoholic Irishman with a checkered past, has returned home for Christmas to care for his recently blinded brother, Richard. As Sharky attempts sobriety, he contends with the hard-drinking, irascible Richard and his own conscience. The cast includes Justin Duncan, veterans Mitchell Britton and Josh Peterson, C.D. Adamson, and Bill Gelber, renowned Texas Tech theater professor. Hotel Garza is offering patrons a hearty Irish meal prior to the theatre experience. Enjoy handmade Irish stew, fresh wheaten bread, a scrumptious dessert and beverage. The package includes two tickets and two dinners for $45.98, and is also available for matinees. With this romantic getaway for two, guests receive two tickets to the show, a soul-warming handmade Irish dinner before curtain, and a good night’s sleep in this magnificently restored turn-of-the-century inn. May 16….Lubbock Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis - This year's fundraising walk to find a cure will be held on the Lubbock Christian University campus, 5601 West 19th Street. Get there early at 8:30 a.m. for event registration. Walk begins at 9 a.m.

May 16….Arthritis Walk - Everyone is invited to participate in a 1 mile and 5K walk. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk is at 9 a.m. For more information contact Stephanie Wehmeier at 773-6427 . Texas Tech Rec Center; Walk begins at 9 a.m.

May 16….Summer Kickoff Carnival - Help start the Summer off with a bang. Parks and Recreation will be hosting its 2nd Annual Summer Kickoff Carnival. Starring comedy cast includes Jane Prince-Jones and Kurt Kiser. Special musical guest is West Texas singer/songwriter Hannah Jackson. Tickets are $25. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave; 7:30 p.m.

May 16-17…. 51st Gemstone, Jewelry, and Fossil Show and Sale - There will be over 100 displays from area artists and collectors including a table full of “rock food.” There will be many vendors from around the country featuring decorator items, beads, polished stones, gemstones, gold and silver jewelry, fossils, and lapidary equipment. Hourly door prizes are offered, as well as a grand prize for adults and one for children. A shopper’s dream. Lots to see and buy. Admission: Adults- $4, students 6-12-- $2, Children under 6- free. ay 17….Return of The Planets: A Joe Don Davidson Memorial Event - Featuring original Planets members: Steve Morelock (piano), Denise Brissey (vocals) Debbie Blakely (vocals), Davis McLarty (drums). Other special guests include Terry Allen, LTRM All Stars, Electric Gypsies, Rev. Al & The Pythons, Lesley Sawyer, Jeff McCreight, Donnie Allison, John Sprott, Doug Bossi and more. All proceeds benefit the Joe Don Davidson Children’s Fund, providing college money for his three youngest kids; Jayson Joe Davidson (16), Danielle Don Davidson (14) and Savanna Renee Davidson (12).
