February 6....Crafts, Etc. Glassworks Closing Reception and Gallery Talk - The Buddy Holly Center is excited to invite the public to the Closing Reception for Crafts, Etc. Glassworks in conjunction with the February First Friday Art Trail on February 6, 2009. Artists Oliver Doriss, Mark Nazworth, and Danny Watson will give gallery talks beginning at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments and a cash bar will be provided. Crafts, Etc. is a biennial exhibition at the Buddy Holly Center that celebrates the history and evolution of the American artisan, paying homage to the time-honored tradition of craft-making. Glassworks features approximately 50 works of glass art from the three artists: Oliver Doriss of Tacoma, Washington; and Mark Nazworth and Danny Watson of Lubbock, TX. February 6….Parent's Night Out - Take the night off, they will watch the kids. Kids participate in games, sports and crafts....and dinner is included! Ages 6-12 $10/child. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Call 767-3706 for info. Hodges Community Center, 4011 University.


February 6….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues, plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout our community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. The trolleys are free, and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treaure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and who will help you navigate FFAT with ease. February 6-7….Lubbock Unwrapped -
This week's guest host is Mark Bass and features the hit music of the Eagles and The Beach Boys. This all-new variety concept features the talents of Cactus favorites Jason Fellers, Billy McClaran Brandon Gwinn, Jeff Bailey, Jane Prince Jones, Kurt Kiser, Christopher Gossett, Jacie Hood and The Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine. Special guest is West Texas singer/songwriter Chris Crow. Tickets are $25. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7:30 p.m.


February 6-7….LCU Master Follies - Every year LCU holds Master Follies, a musical variety show featuring students in performances. It is an event the whole family will enjoy. This event is one of the longest-standing traditions on campus. Each of LCU's eight social clubs, which are much like fraternities and sororities, perform a show using songs and choreography to tell an original story. Assessments of judges from each performance are tallied on the final night to determine winners in men's and women's categories. The audience selects a People's Choice winner that is announced at the final performance. February 7…..Texas Tech Red Raider Basketball – Big XII conference hoops action with the Tech men vs. the Baylor Bears. Tickets available through Select-A-Seat ticket outlets or at the arena box office. United Spirit Arena, 1711 Indiana Avenue; 7 p.m.

February 7….Wine and Chocolate Fantasia 2009 - More than 40 area chefs will display and sample their creations and if you have a love for chocolate, this is a must attend event. Enjoy live jazz as you stroll through the wine cellars from table to table taking in the beauty and creativity of each competitor’s entry while enjoying a glass of Llano wine. Keep in mind, you control the winner of the People’s Choice award with your vote. The Llano Wine & Chocolate Fantasia also serves as a great fundraiser for two of Lubbock’s finest establishments. For the past eleven years, the event has raised thousands of dollars for the West Texas Parkinsonism Society and the Texas Chefs’ Association Scholarship fund. February 14….David Gaschen Sings Songs of Love - This Valentine’s Day, Cupid is alive and well at the Cactus Theater. Treat your valentine to a romantic evening of love songs sung by the incomparable David Gaschen. You will want to share this special night with someone you love, so get your tickets early; romance is in the air! Tickets are $30. Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue; 7:30 p.m.

February 24….Lubbock Meals on Wheels 10th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration - This spectacular event will include thirty-five food booths (with selections from your favorite local restaurants), live jazz music by the Shinn/Turner Dixieland Band, a large silent auction, cash bars, plus a variety of activities and prizes. Colorful masks and beads will be available to make the evening even more festive. Everyone will also enjoy entertainment such as dancers, clowns, magicians, jugglers and flamboyant decorations in the official colors of purple, green, and gold. The expanded children’s area includes bouncers, face and hair painting, and several games and activities to keep the kids entertained. Event tickets are $30 for adults, $10 for children under 12 and can be purchased in advance at Lubbock Meals on Wheels, any Select-A-Seat location (service charge applies) or for $35 at the door. Cash, checks, or credit cards are accepted and tickets can be mailed. New this year: benefit drawing for a trip to Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, New Mexico ($500 gift certificate to use toward rooms, dining, golf, or gaming). Drawing tickets are $25 each and only 250 will be sold. Drawing will be held at the event but you need not be present to win.
