January 23….A Tribute to Johnny Cash - If you are a Johnny Cash fan (and who isn’t?), you are going to love this special event at the Cactus Theater. Bennie Wheels, from Dallas, Texas, headlines this highly acclaimed, authentic tribute to the “Man in Black”. His wife, Renee’, with an uncanny sound and likeness to June Carter, adds that special touch to this amazing recreation, widely recognized as the best Johnny Cash tribute show in the nation. Lubbock Community Theatre’s Production of "Deathtrap" - Successful Broadway mystery playwright Sidney Bruehl is suffering from writer’s block and, after reading a brilliant play by a student playwright, decides to make the play his own. His method of acquiring the play presents twists and turns in a plot that will cause the audience to scream, laugh and be thrilled. Written by Ira Levin and directed by Jay C. Brown. Witness this riveting drama taking place in the final moments of the crucifixion. Glenn Polk delivers his most stirring performance yet, in the title role. The Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. It is celebrated with festivals, parades, and traditional gifts and greetings. Volunteer for Walk Benefitting
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis is just around the corner. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. Volunteers are needed to help plan the walk and help on walk day with registration and other activities. The walk will take place Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. at Lubbock Christian University. This opportunity is great for anyone who is interested in volunteering in our community. The Great Strides Walk benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation whose mission is to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Congrats to Hub Performing Arts School for Bringing Home Gold!

Hub Performing Arts School's Advanced Performance Team travelled to Atlanta to participate in the Music Theatre International Jr. Theatre Festival. Hub brought home the GOLD!!! The team performed fifteen minutes of "Godspell Jr." Out of 33 teams with over 1,300 kids, they were chosen as Most Outstanding Production! Six teams total were selected. Hub was the smallest team and the only team attending the festival for the first time! They also won Outstanding Dance Performance. Andrew Gonzales, who played Jesus, won Best Actor. Andrew Gonzales, Colton Duncan and Kendra Dukatnik were selected to be in the All Star Cast! And last but not least....the team will now look forward to performing in New York City in early August. What amazing accomplishments for everyone involved...and we're so proud that you represented us well!

January 29….Last Thursday Art Parts Party – Tornado Gallery and LHUCA are teaming up to offer a night of fun and art on the last Thursday of the month. Join them for a found and altered object workshop. The workshop will be $25( $15 for members of LHUCA, Lubbock Arts Alliance and students). January 29….Heart Link Network Meeting – A women’s networking group that is new to Lubbock. Hub Performing Arts School presents this fun play based on the beloved children's books by Beverly Cleary. Henry Huggins just wants to have his own paper route, but his friend Ramona and her little sister Beezus just keep getting in the way. Henry and his friends build a club house with the sign "NO GIRLS ALLOWED!" and trouble ensues! You'll love this fun play for all ages. Saturday’s matinee includes a performance of the Advanced Performance Team's award winning competition piece - 15 minutes of "Godspell Jr." Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased by calling 795-7344.
