January 15….Lubbock Girls Basketball - Late Registration Extension - LGB has been a leading basketball organization for girls between the grades of 3rd through 12th for over three decades. It provides girls an opportunity to enhance, not only their basketball skills, but also learn valuable lessons which they use in their daily lives. January 15….“Singles Coffee and Conversation” - The theme will be “internet dating” and will be led by Christy Byers. These have been very successful and are a great way to get out and meet new singles. There will be a $2 admission fee at the door. Come early to order your specialty coffee and drinks. Seminar topic will begin at 7 p.m. Bring your friends and come and get acquainted with some new singles. J&B Coffee, 2701 26th Street; 7 p.m.- 9 p.m.

January 16-17….Lubbock Unwrapped: '70s Retro - Get ready for a whole new experience! Headlining a celebrity guest host each week, Lubbock Unwrapped will feature blisteringly funny skits by their wonderful cast of actors and comedians, “á la Saturday Night Live,” then rock you with the best music. Presenting hit tributes to the legends of American music and an incredible West Texas singer/ songwriter. But...that’s not all: you will visit Betty Jo’s Bar and Grill and Bob and Toni’s Salon, never knowing who might stop by for a brew, bite, or trim. To top it all off you the audience become part of the show as you attempt to stump Christopher Gossette as he takes a suggested song title and creates a song on the spot. Starring: Sheena Fadeyi, Jason Fellers, Billy McClaran, Jeff McCreight, Owen Franklin, Jane Prince- Jones, Kurt Kiser, Christopher Gossett and The Lubbock Texas Rythmn Machine. Don’t miss The Cactus Cuties as they perform a tribute to The Jackson 5. Guest Host: Marc McDougal and West Texas singer/songwriter Matt Martindale. Tickets are $25. January 16-17….Lubbock Symphony Orchestra’s Production of “Out of This World” – With the dawn of the New Year, the LSO begins an expedition of strange new worlds befitting of Kubrick’s "2001: A Space Odyssey." Hearing Ligeti’s ethereal music, will enable you to visit the sounds and sonorities of the vast expanse of outer space and the stillness of the cosmos. Next, hear a child’s innocent perspective of our own world brought to you by Finzi. The Lubbock Youth Orchestra joins the LSO in the finale with Holst’s triumphant trek to our wondrous celestial neighbors. Featuring Karl Dent, tenor. . Lubbock Community Theatre’s Production of "Deathtrap" - Successful Broadway mystery playwright Sidney Bruehl is suffering from writer’s block and, after reading a brilliant play by a student playwright, decides to make the play his own. His method of acquiring the play presents twists and turns in a plot that will cause the audience to scream, laugh and be thrilled. Written by Ira Levin and directed by Jay C. Brown. Join Dream Kasestatad, a Lubbock native and Montre Burton star of ABC’s "High School Musical" as they conduct a master class industry workshop. January 20, 27....“Six Strings Attached” Guitar Lessons - Music fans eight years old and up are invited to the Buddy Holly Center to try out acoustic guitar with local musician Joe Gillis Tuesdays in January. Joe has taught guitar instruction for several years and boasts over 25 years of playing experience. Bring your own guitar, or use one at the center while in class. Four lessons for $20. January 23….A Tribute to Johnny Cash - If you are a Johnny Cash fan (and who isn’t?), you are going to love this special event at the Cactus Theater. Bennie Wheels, from Dallas, Texas, headlines this highly acclaimed, authentic tribute to the “man in black”. His wife, Renee’, with an uncanny sound and likeness to June Carter, adds that special touch to this amazing recreation, widely recognized as the best Johnny Cash tribute show in the nation. January 24….”Biggest Loser Couples” Contest - The Falls is holding their own version, of the popular TV show and non-members are invited to be a part of it all. If your goal is to lose up to 20 lbs in 6 weeks, they will help you achieve your goal! Participants will be placed on teams and winners will be determined by the entire team's percentage of weight loss for their group. Participants will receive a t-shirt in their team color, prizes, and a special class held just for you! The $45 entry fee (per partner) includes: ONE special class per week held exclusively for our BIGGEST LOSERS on Saturdays @ 11:15 a.m., a healthy luncheon plus nutritional tips and advice on how to eat to lose, six weeks to compete (January 24th – March 7th), one special class with Beth held each week on Saturdays @ 10:15 a.m. (Please note: It isn't mandatory to attend the "Loser" class, but it's a great way to meet your teammates and stay committed to your goal). Individual weight will be private...only team totals will be posted, Awards Party for all participants and a 6 week membership to the Falls Athletic Club. Deadline to enter is January 17.
