July 3....Revolutionary Fair
- Children of all ages are invited to the public library to learn about life during the American Revolution. There will be period clothing, toys, games, and more. "Special guest" will be first lady Abigail Adams. This program is presented by the Nancy Anderson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. For more information, please call 775-2838. July 3....2nd Annual Vintage Township Independence Celebration - In honor of our country’s birthday, Vintage Township is hosting its 2nd annual Independence Celebration - a day early. The entire Lubbock community is welcome to come out for this free evening of fun-filled events and entertainment.
Let your hair down, throw on a swimsuit and sunscreen and make your way to Founder’s Park at 5:30 p.m to get ready to watch and let your children participate in the “Wheels and Thrills” Kids' Parade which begins at 6 p.m. Decorate your stroller, wagon or bicycle and participate in a colorful parade around the park...headed by Uncle Sam himself. Around 7 p.m., the Beach Blast Water Fun begins. There will be blow-up slides and jumpers, a dunking machine and water balloon slingshots, as well as fresh watermelon and lemonade—all for an afternoon of safe summer fun and a big beach blast. Hamburgers and ice cream available for purchase. The evening ends with an award ceremony for the best Kids' Parade decorations. July 3....Mrs Baird's Centennial Street Dance - Featuring longtime Lubbock favorites - the Maines Brothers Band. Tickets are $18.00 per person which includes a BBQ plate. Tickets can be purchased at any Select-A-Seat location;

July 3....Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series -
The Colin Gilmore Band performs outdoors in the courtyard.. FREE admission. Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue. 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.


July 4....4th on Broadway Festival - Since it's birth 15 years ago, it has been classified as "The largest Free Festival in Texas." The day will begin with the McDougal Companies Parade at 9:00 a.m. traveling from Ave Q west down Broadway onto the Texas Tech Campus. After the parade concludes the Wells Fargo Street Fair will begin along Broadway until 4:00 p.m. There will be 9 music stages featuring over 50 artists, a kid's area with all kinds of activities including an art contest, space walks, a rock climbing wall, a spider wall, train rides, face painting and arts and crafts. The street will be filled with vendors selling a variety of food, sweets and merchandise. At 4:30 p.m. you will want to move to Mackenzie Park, were the Celebration continues. The Plains Capital Bank Evening Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. featuring Lubbock music legends Mac Davis and Richie McDonald, formerly of Lonestar. The evening will conclude with the Gandy's Fireworks Extravaganza with music accompanied by the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra at dark. This concert is free to the public but Premier Seating is available for the Evening Concert. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased at any Select-A-Seat location. July 4....Friday Night Art Trail - The galleries, studios, businesses and restaurants of downtown Lubbock and beyond will join together and open their doors for Lubbock’s monthly evening of art, music and food. First Friday Art Trail showcases fabulous works of art, much of which is created locally in the unique and inspiring galleries, studios, businesses and restaurants of downtown Lubbock and throughout our city. July 5....Old-Time Southern Gospel Singing - Featuring the harmony of 4Heavensake, Echoes of Praise, The Watchmen, Sisters Joy, and other special guests. This will be a night of good, heart-warming, uplifting music. Reserved seat tickets are $20; Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue, 7:30 p.m.

Frederic was meant to be an apprentice of a pilot but his maid mistakes her master's wish for a pirate and after many years he discovers the truth. He is ready to leave the Pirates of Penzance when his maid, Ruth, pleads him to take her with him. He agrees. Shortly thereafter he meets the daughters of Major General Stanley and falls madly in love with them, rejecting his maid. After they say “no” to loving him, the fairest maid of all, Mabel, agrees to love him., but Frederic’s sense of duty gets in the way. July 9, 16, 23, 30, August 6, 13....Kids Cookie Camp - The Cookies For Dad event was so well-attended that Cookies By Design has created a new opportunity to continue the fun. Owner, Kris King welcomes all Lubbock Fun Club kids and parents each Wednesday this summer to make a special treat and decorate fun theme cookies at Cookies By Design. Reservations are required for one hour appointments, 1-4 p.m. Call 794-6992 to reserve a spot. Children must be accompanied by an adult and the cost is only $5.00 per child to decorate one theme cookie...with a different cookie shape each week. Summer is sweeter at Cookies by Design, 3310 82nd St.

July 10....LFC Singles Dinner - The Lubbock Fun Club Singles (S0S) will meet for a potluck dinner, fun and fellowship. Bring your favorite dish; McCullough Park, (covered picnic area), 88th and Flint, 7 p.m.

July 15-18....Technical Theatre Workshop - Students from this class will have the opportunity to learn technical theatre skills and work on the Musical Theater production of “Aladdin Jr”. For kids ages 10-15 who are interested in what goes on behind the scenes in a theatrical production. There will be a chance to learn stagecraft, lighting, and makeup techniques from instructors including Elysse West and Dr. Jim Bush. After the 4 day workshop is complete, these students will be given the opportunity to be the backstage crew for Aladdin Jr., the musical that will be performed by the Musical Theatre Workshop kids.
