October 19….Museum by Night: Storytelling in the Age of Jazz - Museum by Night: Illuminating Ideas is an exciting new creation of evening events at the Museum of Texas Tech University for the adventurous adult, young and old. Each evening explores thematic experiences of living. Doors will be opened to novel perspectives, discussions, performances, and more, drawing from the community, University, and museum collections. Be inspired by artists, poets, theologians, writers, scientists, historians and each other. Enjoy immersion: create, think and explore! October 19….West Texas Walk of Fame Induction 2017 - The public is invited to attend the iInduction ceremony honoring the 2017 West Texas Walk of Fame Inductees James Braxton, musician/music educator; Thomas Braxton; jazz musician, composer, producer and educator; and Johnny Ray Watson, evangelistic gospel singer. October 19 - 21….Flatland Film Festival - Flatland Film aims to cultivate an appreciation for film, video and the digital moving-image expression and to support artists working in this mode of expression. This year’s festival is once again punctuated with live original music, appearances by directors and filmmakers and, of course, the best in independent filmmaking. October 19 - 22….9th Annual Pumpkin Trail - Bring your families and friends and walk along a lighted trail of carved jack-o-lanterns in the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum in Clapp Park. Stroller and wheelchair accessible. Admission is free. Last year, citizens donated 1,524 pumpkins and attendance was 19,608 people. We are excited about a bigger and better trail in 2017. Two entrances: Lubbock Memorial Arboretum at 4111 University and the Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center at 4215 University. October 20 - 21 (Repeats Oct. 27, 28)….CATS Playhouse Presents: “The Mousetrap” - This murder mystery play by Agatha Christie opened in London's West End in 1952, and has been running continuously since then. The longest running West End show, it has by far the longest initial run of any play in history, with its 25,000th performance taking place on 18 November 2012. The story centers around a group of strangers trapped by a snowstorm with an unknown killer. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students/seniors. Reservations can be made at www.catsplayhouse.com.
