October 27….Silly Science Carnival –An exciting annual Fall fun event just for pre-schoolers! This Fall themed mini-carnival will take place in the Science Spectrum museum, and is perfect for those younger ones that might not want to get out and compete with the older kids at other Halloween events around town or door to door..
Here are just some of the fun activities planned:
• Carnival Games with Guaranteed Prizes

• Silly Science Live Demos
• Story Time
• A Mini Bounce House
• Spooky Critters

• Snacks and Sweet Trick-or-Treats
All Silly Science Carnival activities will be located in the museum and the Exhibit Hall and are included with standard museum admission. $8 for Adults and $6.50 for children (3-12) and Seniors (60+). Children 2 & under are free with an adult. Tickets to the Silly Science Carnival also include full museum admission. The Silly Science Carnival is only recommended for families with children preschool aged children, up to age 5. No scary costumes please! October 27….Dueling Pianos: Kirk Garrett & Rich Wyman - They’re returning! This is the Top-rated Dueling Pianos Show in America, filling venues nightly nationwide. This hilarious, high-energy audience-interactive show is all-request - engaging the audience from the first note. The talented and witty performers, Kirk Garrett and Rich Wyman, engross audience members and make them part of the show. October 28….Spooky Science Carnival - One of Lubbock’s largest annual Halloween events, the Spooky Science Carnival at the Science Spectrum, is back again for another exciting year of “spooky, not scary”, safe family fun! The Science Spectrum has long built a tradition of providing great family oriented informal science education and looks forward each year to the fun that Halloween can bring in continuing to explore science with the public. Locally, there is also a great need for safe alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating and “scarier” haunted houses geared for older ages. The Spooky Science Carnival has become the perfect fit for both needs! The fun all This event is great for families and kids up to age 14 looking for a safe Halloween alternative and a fun, educational party all rolled into one. October 28….Symphonic Wind Ensemble presents a screening and performance of "Frankenstein" - The performers in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will all become mad scientists who will bring to life an original motion picture score by American composer Michael Shapiro for the timeless 1931 film adaptation of Mary Shelley's horror classic Frankenstein. In true silent film fashion, the SWE players will perform the score in real-time with a screening of the film itself. Free, and open to the public. October 28 - 29…..Second Annual Caprock Jazz Festival - The Roots Historical Arts Council will be hosting the Second Annual Caprock Jazz Festival. The two-day festival will bring to the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center stage some of the top names in the jazz world, including living legends and Grammy award winners, Ramsey Lewis and Earl Klugh. The event will also feature international jazz stars, Jonathan Butler, Tom Braxton and Arlington Jones. The festival will also feature up-and-coming jazz bands, Fingerprints, Muzikology and Native. Featured vocalists Shawana Kirk and Sunday Best finalist, Sheena Fadeyi-Flores will also highlight the festival. The festival's organizers will also present the Lifetime Achievement Award, to local music icon, saxophonist Don Caldwell and will officially initiate a petition drive to have JT Braxton and his son Tom simultaneously inducted into the 2017 West Texas Walk of Fame. October 28 - 29…. Society Paige: A Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Event - It’s 1929 and flighty socialite Paige Whitehall is throwing herself a birthday party. Sheltered and pampered, Paige decides to invite an assortment of “Broadway” types and soon the room is filled with aspiring performers, bookies and amiable gangsters. When caustic columnist Fritzi Fitzroy arrives and manages to offend everyone in sight, it’s no surprise that she ends up drowned in the bathtub gin! The audience gets to decide whodunit. Included in the cast are Kristian Chen, Whitney Garrity, Sherida Hibbard, Matt Huntsman, Tuti Huntsman, Mackenzie Mealem, David Mitchell, Cori Overstreet and Shai Isaiah Vergara. The menu: Pork tenderloin with jezabel sauce, New Orleans potato casserole, Italian green beans, jumbo spiced cupcake with butter cream frosting. Reservations: The cost is $30 per person. October 28 – 29 ….Flatlands Dance Theatre presents Tricks and Treats: A Halloween Spooktacular - Flatlands Dance Theatre invites you to experience a one of a kind show guaranteed to leave you shaking in your boots! The talented artists of FDT will present seven original dance works celebrating our favorite holiday - Halloween! October 29….The Roundtable presents: Andy Wilkinson, Southwest Collection - Special Collections Library - Our luncheons are held at Hillcrest Country Club 4011 N Boston Ave, Lubbock. North on University past State Living Facility to Newcomb, left for about 4 blocks and you will come to the entrance of the Hillcrest Country Club at Boston and Newcomb. Meeting Format: People arrive about 11 a.m. to start registering, pay for lunch and some socializing. Food service starts at 11:15 followed by introductions and announcements at 11:30.The speaker will start about 11:50 and be finished with the program and questions from the audience by 1 p.m.The public is invited. Lunch/attendance is fifteen dollars ($15) per person. Limited menu includes beverage and dessert. There are no membership fees or dues associated with attending the functions. Any extra monies that you would like to contribute will go towards the speakers lunch and towards our Honors College Scholarship fund at Tech. Our Saturday luncheons are a great way to (1) learn more about current global/US/Texas/Lubbock issues and events, (2) meet other people in area who may become lifetime friends (3) feel more at home in Lubbock. October 29 ….Career of Italian Artist Ezio Gribaudo Celebrated in Upcoming Exhibit - You are invited to an evening of Italian art hosted by Timeless Art Gallery of Lubbock, Texas
on artist Ezio Gribaudo. Trained at the Accademia di Brera and as an architect, Turin-based artist Ezio Gribaudo brings to his visionary art a distinctive sense of chromatic precision and historical determination that derive from his work as a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist. His award-winning production has been recognized with various international prizes, among which the IX Rome Quadriennale in 1965, the XXXIII Venice Biennale Prize (for graphic arts) in 1966, and the São Paulo Biennial in 1967. Gribaudo’s prolific production and diversified activities have given him a highly significant presence in contemporary Italian art. He worked with Francis Bacon, Giorgio de Chirico, Willem De Kooning, Marcel Duchamp, Peggy Guggenheim, Joan Miró, Henry Moore, the CoBrA Group with Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Jean-Michel Atlan, and Asger Jorn, to mention a few artists and personalities with whom he crossed paths. Through his committed activity as an art publisher, he mentored and promoted many of the most relevant figures in modern art since the 1950s. His experimentations with materials and print bring to light archeological remnants in the context of intense chromatic studies. These works are based on the engraving of white surfaces, resulting in dazzling white on white compositions that frame memories of daily objects in visual renderings reminiscent of Duchamp’s readymades. His use of a manual press renews the function of an old and noble instrument, now incorporated with craft and ability in the artist’s daily practice. Sales of the artwork will continue until November 11, including First Friday Art Trail on November 4. The career and artwork of Ezio Gribaudo will be celebrated on October 29 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Lubbock art community is invited to celebrate this internationally acclaimed artist. The event takes place at Timeless Art Gallery, 3501-50th St, Suite #112; 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

October 29….University Singers, Women’s Chorale, & University Choir Concert - Three of the School of Music's choirs will present a program of diverse international provenance in this showcase of song. The University Choir will present the world premiere of Andrew Rindfleisch's Three Little Love Songs, in addition to presenting music from Russia, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, and the United States. Rindfleisch himself will also be at the School of Music on Friday, October 28 and on Saturday, October 29 to rehearse with the University Choir and to offer both a masterclass and a seminar for the School of Music's composition students. October 30….First Christian Church Annual “Trunk or Treat” – There will be trick or treating from trunk to trunk, games, and a bounce house for kids of all ages to enjoy! The First Christian Church Praise Band will provide entertainment and a raffle drawing will be held every 20 minutes. Frito pie, hot dogs, and drinks will be available to purchase for $1 each. A non-scary, fun, and science-based children’s “Spooky House” will be led by the college students of our church. FREE and open to the community. October 30….University Symphony Orchestra “Halloween Celebration” Hauntcert, with a Costume Contest and an Instrument Petting Zoo - All manner of spookiness awaits as the University Symphony Orchestra offers their annual Halloween family extravaganza! Special guests, including an English bagpiper, a ballet dancer, a visual artist, and the Mariachi Los Matadores de Texas Tech will all join the orchestra in a performance that will provide plenty of new tricks and seasonally appropriate treats. Show up an hour early to join in the fun of the costume contest for a chance to guest-conduct the orchestra. Or receive a hands-on opportunity to get to know the instruments of the orchestra in the popular “Instrument Petting Zoo, ”where all can listen to, touch, and even play everything that will be on stage for the concert. A special performance by the young musicians in the TTU String Project will also take place at 6:30pm in Hemmle Recital Hall, as they tell a creepy tale called Halloween Spectacular. October 31….Harry Potter Halloween: Celebrate With Barnes & Noble - It is a Harry Potter Halloween! Come dressed in costume and join us for a fun-filled evening with activities, games and trivia.
