Upcoming Gallery Exhibit Reveals the Intrigue of the Circus

February 15 – March 27…..Landmark Arts SRO Photo Gallery Presents “Cirque Du Psyche” Exhibit - In her series Cirque du Psyche, Leslie Hall Brown constructs and photographs fantastical 'circus acts' that recall traveling circuses, carnivals, and freak-shows of days past. The photographs in this series highlight the combination of humor and horror that has been successfully used to entertain the public for centuries. Brown effectively associates the series' circus acts with the dream-like (and even nightmarish) through the use of black and white photography and vignetting techniques. She suggests the photographs in Cirque du Psyche are metaphors for 'psychic struggle' as the "images are as marred as our psyches, showing the signs of history and aging." The exhibition is free and open to the public. The Landmark Arts SRO Photo Gallery is located in the sub-basement of the Texas Tech School of Art Building. The Art Building is located at 3010 18th Street (near the corner of 18th Street and Flint Ave). Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. On weekdays, paid parking is available on the fourth floor of the Flint Avenue parking facility.
