Doc is revered as one of the fathers of the Texas wine industry. McPherson grew up in a cotton-farming family, served in the Army Air Corps in World War II, and taught chemistry at Texas Tech University. He is most known for his instrumental role in launching the wine and grape-growing industries in West Texas. McPherson and his colleague and business partner, Bob Reed, began planting experimental grapes in Lubbock during the late sixties. The two went on to establish Llano Estacado Winery in 1976, the first post-Prohibition winery in Texas. In 1968 he was the first person to plant Sangiovese in his “Sagmor Vineyard,” a plot of vineyard that still produces some of today. We hope you'll join us to celebrate his life and raise a glass in his honor! Live music by The Alma Trio.

Celebrating 25 Years of Fun:
Science Spectrum Hosts Interactive "Explore Lubbock Giveaway!"

Have you heard of the Hidden Cash phenomenon? We have brought the hunt to Lubbock! The citywide scavenger hunt started in San Francisco where an individual decided to hide cash in the city. The individual posted clues through social media to reveal the locations, and it created national buzz. This fun idea sparked our interest at the Science Spectrum. We liked the idea of the fun in exploration. Inspired by Hidden Cash, we put together the Explore Lubbock Giveaway! With our weekly summer promotion we invite the community to go outside and explore the city of Lubbock. For our giveaway each week, we hide the prize certificate in a secret location for Lubbockites to find! Through the Science Spectrum’s social media we give out clues to the prize locations. By following the Science Spectrum on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter those on the hunt can participate in this opportunity to win big! Our prizes have been memberships to the Science Spectrum and other promotional items. This is our chance to thank the community for our 25 years here promoting science and exploration. Never stop exploring!
