February 13…."A Splash of Red" Watercolor Show - The YWCA of Lubbock and the Legacy Event Center is pleased to announce a new partnership for 2014. To celebrate this collaboration, the Legacy Event Center and the West Texas Watercolor Society will co-host A SPLASH OF RED Watercolor Show throughout February. Patrons are invited to come view as well as purchase paintings which celebrate the color red. They are also encouraged to vote for the People's Choice Award which will be announced at the end of the month. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served in the Legacy Atrium for visitors to join in the RED celebration and enjoy the music of Greg Goodnight. Legacy Event Center, 1500 14th Street; 5:30 – 7 p.m.

February 13….Sweetheart Dance
– Everyone ages 40+ are invited to bring your sweetheart and have fun dancing to live country music. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Cost is $6.00. Lubbock Senior Center, 2001 19th Street; 6:30 p.m.

February 14….New Neighbors Club to Host Valentine Luncheon and Musical Program
- Join us for lunch and listen to “Songs from the Heart” performed by local radio personality and musician Jeff Bailey. You do not need to be new to the Lubbock area or a member to attend this event. Cost for the Luncheon is $14 and reservations are required. New Neighbors is a 36 year old non-profit organization that offers various group activities such as Bridge, Out to Lunch Bunch, Movie Lovers, Gardening, Canasta and others. February 14….TTU Presidential Lecture and Performance Series: Parsons Dance - Parsons Dance is an internationally acclaimed contemporary American dance company bringing to the stage a show so athletic, entertaining and mesmerizing, that audiences barely have a chance to catch their breath. The New York Times calls Parsons Dance “humorous, fast moving and exuberant.” Since 1985, under the artistic direction of dancer/choreographer David Parsons, Parsons Dance has toured to more than 350 cities, 35 countries, five continents and performed for millions of audience members. February 14…."David Gaschen: Valentine's Day Concerts" - Not once, but TWICE in the same day, the Cactus Theater presents the one and only Mr. David Gaschen himself, as we will be starting off the Valentine's evening early, with our special matinee concert at 4:30 p.m., and then following up with the evening show at 7:30! Internationally renowned vocalist, best-known for his leading role on Broadway's "Phantom of the Opera", David is coming home for a special Valentine's Day concert. Based on the Gospel of Matthew, various well-known parables are performed through a series of scenes and songs. And yet it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the family of humanity. February 15….Norwegian Heritage Baking Workshop - The Vestlandet "Westlands" Chapter of the Norwegian Society of Texas announces it's first ever Norwegian Heritage baking workshop. This will be an opportunity to learn from Norwegians, and those of Norwegian heritage, how to make well known traditional Norwegian favorites called Krumkake, Sandbakkels, and Fyrstekake. Immediately following the afternoon of baking, from 4 - 6:30 p.m., participants are invited to stay for a supper of soup, homemade bread and the desserts of our newly baked Norwegian goodies. February 15….Dancing With Mr. Darcy: Downton Abbey - The Vernacular Music Center, the TTU School of Music, and the Roots Music Institute present Dancing with Mr. Darcy at Downton Abbey, with live music and dancing from the Regency and post-Edwardian eras. Dress to impress in your favorite Downton Abbey styles. Hors d’oeuvres and light buffet served, including coffee, tea, and other non-alcoholic beverages. In this ticketed event, which raises funds for the Vernacular Music Center, participants may dance and dine; sip punch and tea; and watch, learn, and enjoy the dancing. TTU staff, dancers, and musicians provide friendly instruction as well.
