November 21….Vietnam Center and Archive Guest Lecture Series - A 1967 graduate of West Point, Astronaut Col. Mike Mullane was commissioned in the USAF and served as a Weapon Systems Operator aboard an RF-4C Phantom, completing 150 combat missions in Vietnam. In 1978 he was selected as a Mission Specialist for the first group of Space Shuttle astronauts. He completed three space missions and logged 356 hours in space before retiring in 1990. Mullane has been inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and is the recipient of many awards, including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and the NASA Space Flight Medal. November 21 - 24….Holiday Happening - Hosted by the Junior League of Lubbock, Holiday Happening is one of the most exciting events in the Lubbock community, ushering in the Christmas season each fall. Holiday Happening offers entertainment and shopping for the whole family. But the glitz and glamour of this highlight event is made possible by the dedicated efforts of scores of Junior League volunteers on a mission that is more far-reaching than a fun start to the holidays. This small band of women put in thousands of volunteer hours each year to hold the Junior League’s largest fundraising event providing the resources to make the Food2Kids program possible; to support Hope Lodge; to help teach children about good nutrition....and the list goes on. November 21 - 24….Les Miserables - The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and Lubbock Moonlight Musicals (LMM) will join forces this fall to produce one of the most internationally significant, musical works in theatrical history. Alian Boublil's and Claude-Michel Schönberg's colossal musical theatre drama, Les Misérables, will be presented in its original form, in its entirety-completely staged and costumed - signaling a new era of cooperation and collaboration among Lubbock arts groups and artists. "The LSO and LMM have been planning this collaboration and production for more than a year," says Dolter. "I cannot think of a better theatrical work to bring together the artistic forces available in Lubbock. It is a huge project. The South Plains will be talking about this show for years to come." In another important development, the Lubbock Junior League will coordinate this production to coincide with its annual Holiday Happening at the Civic Center. November 21 - 24….Texas Tech Theatre: “The Illusion” - Adapted from a seventeenth-century French comedy, The Illusion follows a contrite father seeking news of his prodigal son from a sorcerer. The magician conjures three episodes from the young man’s life. Inexplicably, each scene finds the boy in a slightly different world where names change and allegiances shift. The father watches, but only as the strange tale reaches its conclusion does he learn the ultimate truth about his son. Freely adapted by Tony Kushner from Pierre Corneille’s L’Illusion Comique and directed by Jonathan Marks. Tickets are $18 for individuals, $5 for students with a valid ID. Polar Express Returns to Build Holiday Memories for Families

November 22 – 27; 29 - 30; December 1 - 2; 4 - 9; 11 - 23; 27 - 30….Polar Express - The Polar Express comes to West Texas to recreate all the sights and sounds of the time-honored story. Picture the excitement of children dressed in pajamas with golden tickets clutched in their hands as they board the train and prepare to embark on their journey to the North Pole. The story begins when the Conductors calls "All aboard" and gleefully punches everyone's ticket. Little faces will peer out the train's windows as we pull out of the station on our way to the North Pole. Guests will hear the sounds of the motion picture soundtrack as the story reading begins and the book's characters come to life. Dancing chefs will serve hot cocoa and cookies to all riders in a merry fashion as the doubting hobo wanders through the train. The train stops where children will behold the magic of the North Pole from their warm train seats. With a jolly "Ho, ho, ho" Santa waves to everyone and climbs aboard where he will greet each child and present them with the iconic silver sleigh bell - listen carefully, only believers can hear its ringing! Christmas carols will be sung as elves dance along as the journey back to the station begins after a memorable ride that sets the for the whole holiday season.
