November 14….South Plains Food Bank 30th Anniversary Open House – Everyone is invited to the South Plains Food Bank's open house for their neighbors in Lubbock and across the South Plains. Refreshments and tours of the food bank will be available, all while learning about their ongoing journey to alleviate hunger and give hope. November 14….Matthew West: Into the Light Tour – Matthew West - an American Contemporary Christian musician and actor from Nashville, Tennessee - has released five studio albums and is known for his songs "More", "You Are Everything", and "The Motions. The Sidewalk Prophets and Jason Castro join Matthew West in concert. Tickets are available at all Select-A-Seat locations or by calling 806-770-2000. November 15….Friday Fiesta – Come and enjoy the Fall fun with a candy scarecrow craft, harvest run and relay, crazy scarecrow dress and dash, popcorn eating contest and a apple harvest challenge. Cost is $10 per child and

November 15….Sweet Plantain - The Texas Tech University Presidential Lecture and Performance Series fall season continues with Sweet Plantain, a New York based string quartet that specializes in genre-blurring, original compositions and arrangements, as well as contemporary works by Latin American composers. Its unique style fuses Latin, classical, jazz and improvisational forms. The group’s mission is to give voice to a contemporary, urban, and Latino sound and bridge the gap between generations and musical genres. Artfully fusing the western classical traditions in which they were trained with the hip-hop, jazz improvisation, and Latin rhythms on which they were raised, their original writing and live shows educate and entertain. Separately hailing from the South Bronx, New Jersey and Venezuela, together these musicians give voice to a sound that is contemporary, multicultural and very New York. There will be an opportunity to meet Sweet Plantain members at a CD signing immediately following the performance. Come and hear the Texas Tech Graduate Brass Quintet in a recital of new and standard works. Works will includes Libby Larsen's "Brazen Overture", "Three Madrigals" by Don Carlo Gesualdo, Kerry Turner's "Ricochet", "Faith, Diligence and Fortitude" by Robert J. Bradshaw, and Eric Ewazen's "Colchester Fantasy". Hemmle Recital hall, 18th Street & Boston Avenue; 8 p.m.

November 15 - 16….Celebrity Attractions: "Ballroom With A Twist" - The 2013-14 Broadway Season is brimming with stars and brand-name Broadway. Opening the season is a cast of professionals and competitors from television’s hottest dance shows. Created and choreographed by Louis van Amstel (Dancing with the Stars), Ballroom With A Twist boasts a cast from Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance performing favorite dances including Samba, Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Jive. Ashly DelGrosso-Costa and Jonathan Roberts star in this dazzling evening that sizzles with energy from the first note until the final curtain. Ashly, from “Dancing With The Stars,” has partnered with celebrity dancers Joey McIntyre, Harry Hamlin and Astronaut Buzz Aldrin in several past seasons of ABC’s hit show. Ashly also adds to her list of credits a guest role on “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.” Jonathan Roberts, also from “Dancing with the Stars,” has danced with Marie Osmond, Heather Mills, Macy Gray and Belinda Carlisle to name a few! Fifteen additional dancers complete the cast including fan favorites from So You Think You Can Dance: Legacy, Randi Lynn Strong, and Jonathan Platero. Credits of the other dancers include Burn The Floor, High School Musical 2, Eli Stone, Odyssey Dance Theater, the Joffrey Ballet and Fox TV series Bones. “American Idol” finalists Von Smith and Gina Glocksen lend their vocal talents to the show. Gina rose through the Idol voting process, finishing as the ninth place finalist of season six. Von, from season 8, recently opened for Lady Gaga’s Australian tour. This critically acclaimed international dance production is fun for the whole family. The show challenges its stars to push the boundaries of ballroom dance, infusing it with the energy and the intensity of the latest contemporary and "hip-hop" styles. For all of the fans, family, and friends who have asked Jane and Terri to bring this play back to the Cactus - here they are! Jane Prince Jones, in her brilliance, will once again present her role as "Louise" - Patsy Cline's dear friend - in this heartwarming musical play. Terri's unparalleled performances of Patsy's classic hits will once again take you back to the wonderful nostalgic memories of the late great Patsy Cline. Jane and Terri brought this play to life at the Cactus Theater for the first time in 1998. Ted Swindley, writer of the play, touted their performance as being one of the top 3 productions in America. November 17….The Lubbock Heritage Society Book Signing - The Lubbock Heritage Society is publishing a new book on the history of Lubbock in conjunction with Arcadia Press. The cost of the book is $22.00 and authors will be present to sign copies of the book. All profits from the sale of the book will go to the Lubbock Heritage Society. The book will contain some newly discovered images collected through Photo Roundups conducted by the Lubbock Heritage Society. The book will contain photos of heritage buildings that have vanished, photos of the Lubbock music scene through the decades, highlights of the history of Texas Tech and much more. Historic Chaulk House/Rivendell, 2701 19th Street (there is plenty of parking at the nearby Lutheran Church); 2 - 4 p.m.
