August 1….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert
The Center is an exciting and beautiful facility located in the heart of Lubbock’s historic Depot District. Home to the most extensive permanent exhibition on the life and music of Buddy Holly, the Center also features a contemporary Fine Arts Gallery, the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery and the outdoor Buddy & Maria Elena Holly Plaza. At 5:30 p.m. the Summer Showcase Concert Series will feature The Toon (West Texas Rock & Roll). Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

August 1….Lubbock Fun Club Singles "SOS" Monthly Dinner - Come and enjoy friends and food at Orlando’s Italian Restaurant (original location). As always, let us know you are joining us, so they can have appropriate wait staff and seating! Come have a great time and share a meal together! August 1–2….Kids' Summer Fun Day Camp -
Can you believe how quickly summer is flying by? Come make some memories, learn new skills, and have fun as summer winds down. The Lubbock County Extension Office will be hosting a Summer Fun Day Camp. Kids ages 9 and up are welcome to attend. The first session will focus on fashion and participants will have the opportunity to learn some new creative skills. The second session will have an emphasis on food and nutrition and participants will even get to cook some tasty dishes! The cost is $15 to cover materials and supplies for both sessions. August 2….First Friday Art Trail -
See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. The trail runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6-9 p.m. On the August First Friday Art Trail, LHUCA will host a very special Romanian Glass sale at the 5 & J Gallery. LHUCA was given a very large donation of Romanian blown glass. The donor requested that the collection, which belonged to his mother, be sold as a fundraiser for LHUCA. Over 300 pieces of decorative and utilitarian glass will be available for purchase for one night only, Friday, August 2 from 6 to 9. The proceeds will go directly to the LHUCA Catalyst Fund to support our programming. Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted. All sales are final.

August 2…First Friday Art Trail at the Museum of Texas Tech - Free public event.

6:30 - 7:30 p.m.… Bedtime@The Museum: The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie dePaola. The craft will be "Thumbprint Bluebonnets" for ages 8 and under with accompanying adult. FREE

ugust 2 – 3....2nd Annual Wines & Vines Festival - Come enjoy wine tastings from 18 Texas wineries, local food, live music & The Hub City Master Chef Competition. All entrance fee proceeds go to Lubbock Meals On Wheels and The Texas Wine & Grape Foundation. Guest entry is $20 for one-day or $30 for two-days. Entry fee includes 10 tickets for one-day and 20 tickets for two-days. Tickets are used for a complimentary 1oz tasting of wine (1 ticket) or a 5oz glass of wine (5 tickets) from any of the participating wineries. A commemorative wine glass is given with each entry so no need to bring your own! Tickets for the event may be purchased at the door. Advanced ticket sales are not available. Additional tickets $1 each. $12 entrance fee for guests who do not want to participate in wine tasting. Kids 12 and under are free. $12 entrance fee for kids over the age of 12. Local Farmers Market will be held Saturday, August 3rd, 12 p.m. in the back parking lot (Buddy Holly & 17th Street). Shrimp & Wine pairing held Saturday, August 3rd, 1:30-2:30 p.m. The Hub City Master Chef Competition will be on Saturday, August 3rd at 2 p.m. Friday, August 2nd 6:30-9:30 p.m. music by The Alma Quartet and Saturday, August 3rd 6:30-9:30 p.m. music by Hayley Burton Band. August 3….Cycle For Hope Main Event Ride - Cycle for hope is a 7 mile bicycle ride at the Texas Tech University and UMC campuses that starts and finishes at UMC. The event is a fun ride that is targeted for the general public, although cycling enthusiasts are encouraged to attend as well. There will be rest stops available throughout the course. Registration fees are $25. Awards will be given for: Largest Team Hot Seat Riders – Raffle event for participants who ride between 12 p.m. and 1p.m. Participants will be provided with a day of family fun enjoying the outdoors. Goodie bag Stocked Rest Areas Bike repairs on-site. All proceeds raised for the event will be split equally between the Children’s Miracle Network at UMC and the Celebrate Today Fund, benefiting patients of the UMC Southwest Cancer Center. University Medical Center, 602 Indiana Ave; 9 a.m.- 11 a.m.

August 3….Roberta Davis Memorial Water Garden Tour
- Great news! We have resurrected our water garden tour!! Join us this Saturday to tour a dozen private gardens plus the Lubbock Arboretum, that features outstanding water gardens. End your tour at Apple Country Orchard. They have a beautiful pond and are offering you lunch, dessert and drink for only $5.99. Tickets are $8.00; Children under 12 get in FREE. Tickets may be purchased at the Lubbock Arboretum or at any tour location on the day of the tour.

August 3….Hub City Beach Party - Get ready for some more fun in the sun! It is time for the 8th Annual Hub City Beach Party! There will be many activities and games to enjoy during the evening. Another featured event is the treasure hunt called The Lost Shaker of Salt!! A variety of foods and drinks will be available as well. The event will also have fun games such as hula hoop contests, limbo contests, and more! The Beach Pong Competition returns again! This is a beer-pong game set up that will be played right in the sand and will have teams of two taking on others in a single elimination tournament. By popular demand the Florida band named The Landsharks (Jimmy Buffet Tribute band) is returning and will start at 7:30 p.m. This year we have a Baron Batch autographed print to auction off! ugust 6….National Night Out - Get outside and spend an evening with friends and neighbors! National Night out celebrates the communities we live in and helps create a united front against drugs, gang violence and crime. The event will include games, refreshments and entertainment for all ages! It is being held at both community centers, so head over to the one closest to your home! Science Spectrum Opens Special Art Exhibit: "I Can REACH HIGH"

August 3 - 29….Science Spectrum to Host, “I Can REACH HIGH”- Reach High, a pre-vocational day program of High Point Village serving adults with special needs, will be hosting their first ever public art show entitled, “I Can REACH HIGH”. Students of this program have utilized their unique talents to create one-of-a-kind art pieces for public display. Various mediums that will be displayed include; paintings, photography, mixed media, sculptures, and collage art. Participants of Reach High are showcasing their artwork at several venues over this summer. The Science Spectrum Museum & OMNI Theater has partnered with High Point Village to provide a high traffic venue for the show. Artwork will be displayed in the Science Spectrum’s main lobby from Aug. 3rd through the 29th, and viewing of the show is free to the public during standard hours of operation. General admission ticket rates for the Science Spectrum Museum and OMNI Theater still apply. High Point Village, Lubbock, Texas, is a local nonprofit organization developed for the purpose of providing an enrichment center and residential living community for individuals with special needs. The goal is to empower those with special needs to achieve more life skills, spiritual growth, self-esteem, and to be a greater part of the community.
