THURSDAY


July 4….4th on Broadway Festivities - The largest free festival in Texas is a true celebration of Independence Day. Featuring a fun-filled day of events for the whole family, general admission to all the events are FREE! Kick off the day at the opening parade down the historic, brick-paved Broadway Avenue. Following the parade, spend the day at the street fair on Broadway: a festival of fabulous musicians on 7 stages, food vendors, games and much, much more.

Independence Day Events Schedule:

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Street fair on Broadway, free. Seven stages of music beginning at 11 a.m. featuring a Gospel Stage, Fiesta Stage, Kids Stage, Retro Stage, Singer/Songwriter Stage, Stars & Stripes Stage, and Variety Stage.

Kids Corral from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, east parking lot.

9 to 11 a.m. — 4th on Broadway Parade, west on Broadway from Avenue Q to University Avenue. Free. Theme is “Imagine Lubbock Together.”

11 a.m. - Annual Early Settler’s Luncheon at Broadway Church of Christ

7 p.m. – 10 p.m. — Street dance at Courthouse Square; Josh Abbott Band and Hogg Maulies scheduled to perform. General admission is $15.00.

7:30 – 9:30 p.m. — Plains Capital Bank Picnic in the Park and Youth Orchestras of Lubbock concert

9:30-10:30 p.m. - Gandy’s Fireworks Extravaganza at Mackenzie Park

July 5….First Friday Art Trail -
See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. The trail runs throughout downtown and the Depot District from 6-9 p.m. This Friday at 5:30 you are invited to a special reception to celebrate the completion of the Helen DeVitt Jones Clay Studio! This state-of-the-art clay studio is by far the best public studio within a thousand mile radius. This would not have been possible without their continued support to LHUCA and their commitment to bring great educational offerings to the community. 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

(Repeats July 12-13; 19–20)….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals Presents “Annie Get Your Gun” – This musical hits the entertainment bulls-eye!" It's a western, a love story, a musical, and a story of the American Dream all rolled into one brilliant show. Bring your family and come along for the ride of your life! After all, "There's No Business Like Show Business." Come enjoy the story of Annie Oakley, a poor, but spirited, country girl and the love of her life, expert rifleman Frank Butler. "Annie Get Your Gun" is truly American. Any show that blends bullets, ballads, show business and music by Irving Berlin is sure to be extraordinary, and "Annie Get Your Gun" is all that! All summer performances will be outdoors in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in beautiful Mackenzie Park. The audience is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and personal lawn chairs or blankets. Seating is on grassy terraces. Tickets are for preferred seating (in the center) and for general admission seating on the sides. July 7
(Repeats on Sundays through July 14)…Westwinds Brass Band Concert in the Park Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association. Admission is FREE and everyone welcome. Wagner Park, 26th St. and Flint Avenue; 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Science Spectrum Offers Military Family Membership Program

July 1 -7….Military Family Membership Program - Military families on Summer Break during the Fourth of July Holiday week, July 1st through July 7th, 2013, can now take advantage of a new program that honors their service to our country. During this time period, the Science Spectrum Museum and OMNI Theater will treat all Active Duty and Reserve Armed Forces personnel, as well as Disabled Veterans, as “Museum Members”. This membership program will entitle a family of up to five (5) people to the same benefits as our standard museum members. Benefits include:

- Free standard Museum admission for a family of five (5).

- Discounted OMNI Theater movie tickets at the member rate of $6.00 for adults and children.

- A 10% discount on most items in the Science Gift Shop.

To take advantage of this special Military Family Membership Program, all the Active Duty, Reserve or Disabled Veteran person need do, is to present their current Military Photo I.D. or a current VA or Disabled Veterans Association membership card at the Science Spectrum admissions desk or Gift shop. The Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater sincerely appreciates the services of these modern day heroes to our country!
