June 20….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert. The Center is an exciting and beautiful facility located in the heart of Lubbock’s historic Depot District. Home to the most extensive permanent exhibition on the life and music of Buddy Holly, the Center also features a contemporary Fine Arts Gallery, the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery and the outdoor Buddy & Maria Elena Holly Plaza. At 5:30 p.m. the Summer Showcase Concert Series will feature Wendy Colonna (Folk Rock). Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

June 21….House Concert with Wendy Colonna - Wendy Colonna combines the heart and soul of her Louisiana roots with the funky refinement of her current Austin domicile, and the result is a sophisticated, sexy, soulful sound that is all her own, yet remains accessible and inviting. A master songwriter, her poetic lyrics have an interesting edge that gives meaning beyond words, and her delivery - which can vary between melodic and gritty - brings them home. A multi-year regular at the Buddy Holly Summer Showcase, Wendy returns to share the kind of intimate evening that can only occur in the eye-contact environment that a house concert provides. June 21 - 22….Hub Performing Arts School's Shining Stars Campers present “Honk Jr.” -
This heartwarming story of the Ugly Duckling will have you singing all the way home! Ugly is born into a family of ducks but it is clear from the beginning that he is different from the rest of his family. ….Children and Adults Theatrical Studios Presents "The Diary of Anne Frank" - In this powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, "The Diary of Anne Frank" captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Each day of these two dark years, Anne's voice shines through: "When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!" June 22….Lubbock Heritage Society Trip – The Lubbock Heritage Society is Big Spring Bound! All are invited to come along on a road trip to Big Spring and the following exciting events:

7:45 a.m. Depart Lubbock from Buddy Holly Center Parking Lot
(They advised we can leave cars parked there during the day)
10:00 a.m. Arrive Big Spring
10:15 a.m. Dine at the newly reopened, historic Settles Hotel (We will order from a limited menu, eating early to avoid their lunch crowd)
11:30 a.m. Tour the restored Hotel (tour will take approximately one hour)
1:00-2:00 p.m. Bus tour of the Big Spring State Park
2:00 -3:00 p.m. Tour the Heritage Museum
3:00-4:00 p.m. Guided tour of the Potton House, circa 1901. A wonderful look at turn of the century architecture and furnishings.
4:00 p.m. Bus will depart Big Spring
6:00 p.m. Arrive Lubbock

Transportation furnished by King’s Highway Tour Bus

(Repeats on Sundays through July 14)…Westwinds Brass Band Concert in the Park – Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association. Admission is FREE and everyone welcome. Wagner Park, 26th St. and Flint Avenue; 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.

June 23….Lunar Lope “Super” Supermoon 5k Run/1 Mile Walk - The Lunar Lope is a 5k Run or 1 Mile Walk for Texas Tech Recreation Members or interested community participants! Come join us under the Supermoon! Cost - Texas Tech Rec Center Members : $15, Community Members: $25. Pre-register at the Fit/Well Office in the SRC or on Active.com. Race Day Registration and race start will be outside the Rec Center at the Leisure Pool South Entrance. Race Starts at 10 p.m.

Volunteer Center of Lubbock Offers Opportunity to Give Back...

Our From the Heart volunteer program allows families to get involved together. It teaches people of all ages about giving back to their community in a variety of ways. Volunteer projects for the family are offered at the Volunteer Center once a week during the summer. We welcome children of all ages to attend with a parent or guardian and enjoy the opportunities to give back.

The following projects will be from
10 a.m. to Noon on the assigned day, unless otherwise noted.

Help make awareness ribbons with the Alström Angels organization for their awareness campaign taking place this fall. Alström Syndrome is one of the most brutal diseases there is, touching every organ in the body. Most children are lost in their late teens and early twenties due to the medical complications it causes.

Wednesday, July 3
Help harvest crops at the South Plains Food Bank's GRUB Farm! Wear something you can get dirty and appropriate shoes. The GRUB (Growing Recruits for Urban Business) program is designed to teach young adults, ages 14 to 21, life and job skills.

Thursday, July 11
Play bingo with seniors at Carillon. Afternoon Event 1:45-3:15 p.m.
The Carillon LifeCare Community is an active, friendly retirement neighborhood in Lubbock.

Thursday, July 18
Come out and have fun with the residents at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center! Spend time with the residents through special summer events that will be determined at a later date. The Lubbock State Supported Living Center provides campus-based direct services and supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Thursday, July 25
Help out at High Point Village's summer camp activities! High Point Village is a faith-based nonprofit organization developed to provide an enrichment center and residential living community for individuals with special needs.
