June 13….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert. The Center is an exciting and beautiful facility located in the heart of Lubbock’s historic Depot District. Home to the most extensive permanent exhibition on the life and music of Buddy Holly, the Center also features a contemporary Fine Arts Gallery, the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery and the outdoor Buddy & Maria Elena Holly Plaza. At 5:30 p.m. the Summer Showcase Concert Series will feature hONEyhoUSe (Blues, Soul, Folk and Americana). Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Avenue; 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.

June 13….Volunteer Opportunity for Lubbock Moonlight Musicals - Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in one of the productions? Need a few volunteer hours? Lubbock Moonlight Musicals is a great place to help out, and is ever in need of volunteers. An open volunteer initiation will be held Thursday, June 13th, at 7 p.m., in the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre. All adults interested in volunteering at our summer productions are requested to attend this meeting. Production volunteer positions are limited, and the initial opportunity to sign up for an evening will be offered at the afore-mentioned meeting. Volunteers are needed to assist with seating patrons and handing out programs at our summer shows at The Wells Fargo Amphitheatre. It is a fun job! If you are a people person, this is opportunity you have been waiting for! As an added bonus, volunteers get to see the show for FREE! If you are unable to attend, please do not hesitate to contact the staff if you are interested in volunteering. The "Summer of Dreams". June 14….Boss of the Plains Award - “The Old West is kind of like a good old sweetheart; kind of gone but not really forgotten.” – Joe Flores. Joe Flores of Stratford, Texas will receive the Boss of the Plains Award recognizing his enduring support of the National Ranching Heritage Center. The award will be presented to Flores during a dinner following a 6:30 p.m. reception and silent auction. Reservations for the dinner and program are required. Cost is $100 each or $75 for Ranching Heritage Association members. Reserved tables for eight are $1,000. The Boss of the Plains Award was created in 1999, named for Stetson’s premier Western hat. It recognizes individuals who are highly regarded in the ranching business and who have provided significant support of the National Ranching Heritage Center. A member of the Ranching Heritage Association since 1972, Flores is also currently serving on the RHA’s executive committee. He is a recipient of the Founders Award, given in recognition of his time, interest and support of the RHA, the non-profit support organization for the National Ranching Heritage Center.The NRHC is proud and excited to honor Joe Flores as the recipient of the 15th Annual Boss of the Plains award. June 14 - 15 (Repeats June 21-22)….Children and Adults Theatrical Studios Presents "The Diary of Anne Frank" - In this powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit, and determination. An impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic, "The Diary of Anne Frank" captures the claustrophobic realities of their daily existence—their fear, their hope, their laughter, their grief. Each day of these two dark years, Anne's voice shines through: "When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!" Rat uses wit and cunning to win, but can his friend Ox forgive him? Directed by Andrea Anderson and co-produced by Texas Tech Department of Theatre and Dance. June 15….Sounds of West Texas -
The first of the summer concert series will will feature local talent performing country, pop nostalgia, and gospel music. The evening of music will begin at 6:45 with and an acoustic set and at 7 p.m. the show with the house band will begin. Nashville Recording Artist, Mary Fletcher will return to Lubbock to perform on the Sounds of West Texas show. Featured performers will be: Mindy Adams, Larry Allen, Sarah Beasley, Steve Burrus, Susan Browning, Lesley Carraway, Mike Carraway, Steven Constancio, Danny Dukatnik, Martin Duckett, Dakota Earnest, Carol Edwards, Cynthia Espinoza, Ray Espinoza, Mary Fletcher, Jessica Kirk, Lonnie Kuss, Donnetta Lippe, Bryan Martin, Donnie Martin, Gary Nix, The Sides Family (Hunter, Reagan and Shanna), Betty Smith, Keith Smith, Kaci Solberg, Riley Solberg, Brian Tate, Tina Turner, Baxter Vaughan, Mark Wallney, Darren Welch, Terry Westbrook, and Connie Williams. Emcee for the evening is Bobby Clark. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for college students with IDs, and $7 for children between 4-12. The price is $12 a piece for those purchase tickets in groups of 10 or more. (Repeats on Sundays through July 14)…Westwinds Brass Band Concert in the Park – Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association. June 22….Lubbock Heritage Society Trip – The Lubbock Heritage Society is Big Spring Bound! All are invited to come along on a road trip to Big Spring and discover the exciting things taking place there!

Schedule of Events for Big Spring Road Trip:


7:45 a.m. Depart Lubbock from Buddy Holly Center Parking Lot
(They advised we can leave cars parked there during the day)
10:00 a.m. Arrive Big Spring
10:15 a.m. Dine at the newly reopened, historic Settles Hotel (We will order from a limited menu, eating early to avoid their lunch crowd)
11:30 a.m. Tour the restored Hotel (tour will take approximately one hour)
1:00-2:00 p.m. Bus tour of the Big Spring State Park
2:00 -3:00 p.m. Tour the Heritage Museum
3:00-4:00 p.m. Guided tour of the Potton House, circa 1901. A wonderful look at turn of the century architecture and furnishings.
4:00 p.m. Bus will depart Big Spring
6:00 p.m. Arrive Lubbock

Transportation furnished by King’s Highway Tour Bus
