January 18-19….Lubbock Symphony Orchestra Classical 3 - The LSO’s season heats up with a romance-infused performance featuring selections that will make the heart swoon. Ravel’s enigmatic Pavane
pour une infant défunte, noted for its haunting and soulful melody, will open the production. The presentation will feature two works by Sergei Rachmaninoff; Symphonic Dances, Opus 45, and one of the most memorable melodies ever composed-Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini performed by 18-year old international piano sensation, Conrad Tao. anuary 21….The Volunteer Center of Lubbock Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service
- The Lubbock community is invited to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service by participating in a service project on Monday, January 21, 2013.Opportunities include: Making Valentine's Day cards for local veterans at the Volunteer Center of Lubbock's conference room, located at 1706 23rd St., from 10 a.m. to noon and assisting with Lubbock Impact's clothing closet by sorting and organizing donations at 2707 34th St., from 9 a.m. to noon. Each year, Americans across the country come together on MLK Jr. Day to serve their neighbors and communities. This day of service empowers individuals, strengthens communities and moves people closer to MLK Jr.'s vision of a beloved community. "This day of service is so important because not only are we celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are also setting a spirit of giving for the rest of the year!" said VCL Program Manager Rachel Flores. The Volunteer Center welcomes families, student groups and individuals to get involved on this day of giving back.
