September 21….National Geographic Live Program - Steve McCurry, renowned National Geographic photographer will be giving a public presentation. This National Geographic Live program is presented by the Museum of TTU and the Museum Association in conjunction with the exhibition Memories of WWII: Photographs from the Archives of The Associated Press, funded locally by the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc. September 21 -22….Jaston Williams: “Camping With Gasoline” - Actor and playwright Jaston Williams stars in his new solo show "Camping with Gasoline". Follow Jaston back to his West Texas childhood and the psychotic family Christmases known as “Blood and Holly”...or his Boy Scout troop, where the main activities were smoking, gambling, and sleeping late. And finally, join an excursion gone haywire in Guatemala as he tries to outrun gangs of armed hostage-taking subversives, chasing him down a steaming, rumbling volcano. September 21-23....Lubbock Community Theatre: “Noises Off” - Originating in London’s West end, this hilariously sexy farce gives audiences a look at the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of a tattered troupe of actors and the play they are desperately trying to stage. Set in 1970’s Britain, Noises Off will whisk you backstage to witness the flubbed lines, false entrances, prat falls, falling trousers, farcical doors and love triangles, culminating on one fateful night as these antics boil. September 22….Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes - Lubbock Board of American Diabetes Association hosts individuals & teams to walk 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) along with the TTUHSC Health and Fitness Fair. Your American Diabetes Association, through Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes, is funding the costly research to find a cure! Please join and support the WALK that is supporting the millions of children and adults with diabetes through research, advocacy, youth initiatives and education. Lubbock's Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is celebrating its 19th anniversary! The goal is to raise $290,000 with more than 2,000 walkers in Lubbock. To reach the goal, the Lubbock Board of American Diabetes Association is asking every walker to raise a minimum of $125. September 23….Panhandle Marathon
- Come out and participate in the inaugural Panhandle Marathon! Expect a flat course with lots of entertainment, and plenty of fun and music afterwards. Event details include half marathon and 5K. For more information on the all the races, the course, registration and volunteering please visit www.panhandlemarathon.com. The Texas Tech Masked Rider will be at there! "Panhandle South Plains Fair" Begins 9-day Run Tomorrow!

September 21 - 29….2011 Panhandle South Plains Fair – The fair is back with free concerts, carnival midway, food and refreshments, exhibitors, merchants and lots of fun. Fair admission prices are: Adults, 13 and over ($8.00), Children, 2-12 ($3.00) and parking ($5.00). Special days during fair week are: Buck -A - Ride Nite (September 20th) - All rides are $1 from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. and there is no parking or admission fee. Food vendors have the option of being open.. and Senior Citizens Day (September 25th) - All persons over 60 pay only $4.00. For more information call 806-763-2833. South Plains Fair Grounds, (From I-27 North or South, take Exit 4 East. The Fairgrounds are located on the northeast corner of Broadway and US-87); The Fair gates will open at 8 a.m. daily and close at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. The carnival opens at 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and operates until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday.


Silent Wings presents B-17 Flights in "Sentimental Journey" Event

September 24 - 27….Silent Wings Museum: “Sentimental Journey” – The Silent Wings Museum invites the public to observe the WWII B-17G bomber, "Sentimental Journey." The aircraft is scheduled to be on display and available for rides and tours at the Silent Wings Museum September 24th through September 27th. The “Sentimental Journey” is here to promote and support the Texas South Plains Honor Flight. The Honor Flight honors WWII Veterans for their service by sending them to Washington D.C. free for three days to visit historical military sites in honor of their service in WWII. To learn more about the South Plains Honor Flight visit the website at www.americasupportsyoutexas.org. B-17 Tours: For a donation patrons can take a walk though history, and climb aboard the plane.
