September 14-15….Saloon Drama Series at the Cactus Theater: "Dooley’s Back at Belle’s" - Set in Belle’s Saloon in Dry Gulch, Texas, in the late 1800’s, Tom Dooley, an outlaw and bank robber, has been released from jail and been through rehabilitation becoming the town preacher. Everyone loves the change he’s been through but the town deputy is not convinced and later, with no witnesses, Dooley confirms the deputy’s suspicions. In fact, the deputy learns Dooley plans to rob and then burn down Belle’s Saloon, leaving her destitute. Dooley’s plan solidifies and Belle’s place is threatened.. that is, until Dooley makes one tiny mistake. Tickets are and can be reserved at 806.762.3233. September 14-16 (repeats September 21-23)....Lubbock Community Theatre: “Noises Off” - Originating in London’s West end, this hilariously sexy farce gives audiences a look at the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of a tattered troupe of actors and the play they are desperately trying to stage. Set in 1970’s Britain, Noises Off will whisk you backstage to witness the flubbed lines, false entrances, prat falls, falling trousers, farcical doors and love triangles, culminating on one fateful night as these antics boil. September 15….The Maize (Opening Day) [Note: Open weekends through November 24 and by special appointments/field trips through the week; see operating schedule and times below] - Fall is here and the Simpson family has created a new labyrinth that will challenge any maze goer! Come test your skills in the 12 acre cornfield full of twists and turns. This year’s design a Texas design. The Maize will give visitors the chance to see this startling creation and is also the perfect place to come pick your pumpkins for fall decorating and carving. They have a huge selection and varieties to choose from. It is the perfect adventure for families, school field trips, church groups, scouts, birthday parties, cooperate team building and company gatherings. So come be a part of Lubbock’s very own cornfield maize. In addition to the maize, you will find roasted corn, BBQ, rock wall, pumpkin patches, campfires, corn cannon, hay bale mazes, barnyard, concession and tent area. Maize admission - $8.00, non-maize admission - $4.00, (4 and under are free). Hayride to Pumpkin Hollow - $5 Open Sept 28th - Nov 24th every Fri Sat and Sun evening dark – close. September 15….Beth Moore Simulcast - Southcrest Women’s Ministry will host a live simulcast event produced by Living Proof Live featuring Beth Moore and Travis Cottrell. Tickets are $20 in advance and include lunch and snacks. Tickets are available online at www.southcrestwomen.org or at the Southcrest Baptist Church office. Tickets will also be available at the door for $25 the day of the event, (cash or check only). The simulcast is for individuals, small groups, and churches. This year’s Living Proof Live event originates from Reading, Pennsylvania. Nationally-recognized Christian author and speaker Beth Moore founded Living Proof Ministries in 1994 with the purpose of teaching women how to love and live on God’s word. She has written numerous books and Bible studies, information is on the Internet at www.lproof.org. September 15….42nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival - The Municipal Garden & Arts Center Proudly announces its 42nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival on September 15th, 2012 from 9am-6pm. Admission is free for the whole family! The Festival will showcase over 80 arts and crafts vendors with a wide variety of original handmade items. Returning this year is Collector's Corner- an aisle of antiques, vintage items and collectibles to complete your decor. New this year is Art Alley - a huge space just for kids! Art Alley will have everything from a rock wall to climb, kid's karaoke hosted by the Buddy Holly Center, face painting, balloons, caricatures and much more! We will have entertainment all day featuring traditional Irish music, Cowboy poetry, The Westwinds Brass Band and many more talented local and regional artists. Many exciting food vendors have joined us this year and we have something for everyone's taste. Please park at Hodges Community Center at 40th and University. September 15….Pinterest Event – Come and enjoy Lubbock’s first Pinterest event! Visit an array of vendors showcasing their innovative creations. You can visit with individuals, small business owners and/or community groups raising awareness. Proceeds benefit Sondra’s Song, S2S, Soar to Succeed Program. The 501(c)3 benefit foster youth age out of care when they turn 18. September 15….The Children’s Home of Lubbock’s 23rd Annual Fall Festival & Barbeque - The Fall Festival is fun for the whole family with a children’s parade through campus @ 10:30 a.m. Catered meal includes BBQ meal with all the trimmings and will be served from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Live entertainment will feature Lone Prairie and Brazos West. There will be a bake sale, Kids area (with inflatable games), hay rides and silent auction. September 15….Texas Tech Football vs. New Mexico - The undefeated Red Raiders return home to host the Lobos of New Mexico in a non-conference game at Jones AT&T Stadium, 4th Street and University; 6 p.m.

September 15….An Evening at Maxey Park – Enjoy paddle boats, train rides, croquet, ladder and bocce ball, horse shoes, badminton, and more. Games free; paddle boats $3. Bring a picnic! There will also be a movie in the park featured at 8:45. Enjoy a movie out under the stars! Popcorn and soda available for purchase during the movie. September’s movie is Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked (rated G). Movie will start at dusk. All ages, (88 minute movie). Maxey Park, 30th & Oxford. Event runs 6-9 p.m.

September 15 -16….Laughter Yoga - Laughter Yoga will be among the many featured sessions at the grand opening of Yoga Bean on Saturday from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. There will be events, vendors and LOTS of items on sale. Also, this Sunday only from 2:30-3:30 there will be a public laughter yoga session at the Yoga Bean. Come play and laugh your stress away! Free chemical release! Open to anyone who wants to laugh and feel better! Wear comfortable clothing and be willing to have fun! Call Carla Brown for more details, 806-392-5768. September 15-16…. West Texas Warbirds 2012 - The modelers and guests of Wings Miniature Aircraft Society, Lubbock, Texas welcome you to share their passion for military model aviation and invite you to attend their radio controlled model air show! This event helps to accomplish several goals. First, it helps raise awareness and promotes the hobby of model aviation to the general public. Second, it helps to honor and remember the heroic men and women who have served their country in military aviation conflict for over a hundred years. Third, it provides an opportunity for the modeling community to congregate, meet new modelers and enjoy each other’s company. And last, West Texas Warbirds provides a fun, nostalgic and entertaining event for families in the South Plains region to visit and enjoy. You can expect close viewing of the model aircraft and a full unobstructed view of the flying demonstrations. Early morning flying is limited due to the low angle of the sun. The best day and times for viewing the aircraft are Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please understand that this is a fair weather event and flying activity may cease with excessive temperatures, high wind speeds, cross-winds or precipitation. The highlight for spectators will be at noon on Saturday, when the flying will stop and modelers will line up their aircraft for display. The participation of the crowd is next, allowing closer inspection of the aircraft, questions and answers with the pilots and voting for the "People's Choice Award." Ballots will be provided for all to submit their vote for their favorite military model aircraft of the air show. Catered food and drinks will be available on site. It is recommended that spectators bring their cameras, lawn chairs and sunscreen as shade may be limited. West Texas Warbirds is a super event for families of school aged children, scouting and senior groups and will spark the interest of many.
