August 3….First Friday Art Trail - See the regular art venues...plus the exciting monthly additions showcasing art and artists downtown and throughout Lubbock. Catch a trolley or bus at many of the locations or pick up a FFAT map at any of the venues to see the art that can be found throughout the community each month during the event. First Friday Art Trail trolleys run continuously in downtown Lubbock during FFAT hours. Trolleys are free and you will find a "trolleyteer" on each trolley who is a treasure trove of info about FFAT and the arts in Lubbock and will help you navigate with ease. August 3-4….Wolfforth Chamber of Commerce Boot Scoot and BBQ Cook-off - IBCA Sanctioned BBQ Cook-off with setup beginning on Friday August 3 and judging on Saturday, August 4. On Saturday come and enjoy Texas Country music featuring Rob Baird, Jason Nutt Band and Texas 114. Concert will be from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. BBQ dinner will be served from 5 – 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 per plate at the gate. Concert tickets are $10 in advance from the Wolfforth Chamber or Select-A-Seat Lubbock or $15 at the gate. This event is BYOB with a $10 cooler fee at the gate. No glass containers please! August 3, 4 (Repeats August 10, 11, 17, 18)….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals: "The Sound of Music" - The amphitheatre is "alive with the sound of music!" Back by popular demand, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "The Sound of Music" is welcomed back to the Wells Fargo Amphitheater! This unforgettable musical tells the story of Maria, a young woman who must choose between her desire to be a nun and the love she has found while being a governess to seven children. Many songs from this musical have become household favorites, such as “Do Re Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” and “Climb Every Mountain.” There is no better way to end the summer than under the stars with Lubbock Moonlight Musicals listening to beautiful singing and the wonderful LMM orchestra! All summer performances are outdoors in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in beautiful Mackenzie Park. The audience is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and personal lawn chairs or blankets. Seating is on grassy terraces. Tickets are $28 for preferred seating (in the center) and $20 for general admission seating on the sides. August 4….Meet The Refuge: Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge - Topics include: "What is a Wildlife Refuge?" (Jude Smith, Wildlife Biologist and Refuge Manager), "Reptiles and Amphibians of Playa Lakes" (Robert Martin, New Mexico Nature Conservancy);, "Surveying the Plains, Buffalo Soldiers, and the WPA" (Sami Simpson, Chair Bailey County Historical Society); "Playa Lakes" (Jim Steiert, Outdoor writer and conservationist); "Truck/Walking Trail Excursions including Seeps/Springs and Invasive Species Management" (Jude Smith, Refuge Manager, assistant wildlife biologists, and interns); "Bird Watching and Dragonflies and Damselflies" (Nancy McIntyre, Associate Professor at Texas Tech University). Also enjoy star gazing from 8 – 10 p.m. Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, From Lubbock, go west on Hwy 84 for 69 miles to town of Muleshoe, then follow signs. Event runs from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

August 4....7th Annual Hub City Beach Party - Get ready for some more fun in the sun! With more games planned, this year is not to be missed! Enjoy listening to The Landsharks (Jimmy Buffet tribute band). There will be many activities and games to enjoy during the evening. Another featured event is the treasure hunt called The Lost Shaker of Salt!! A variety of foods and drinks will be available as well. The event will also have fun games such as hula hoop contests, limbo contests, and more!The Beach Pong Competition returns again! This is a beer-pong game set up that will be played right in the sand and will have teams of two taking on others in a single elimination tournament. To register your team call the Foster*A*Life office at 806.792.3181 and sign up today! "Changes In Latitude Contest"- This is a drawing for 2 tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies! The drawing is the night of the event, but you need not be present to win. Raffle tickets $10.00 each. Cost is $15 or $20 at the door. The Hub City Beach Party is a fun event to raise money for Foster*A*Life which is a nonprofit agency that grants dreams to foster children in the 18 counties surrounding and including Lubbock. August 4 (Repeats August 24)….Cactus Theater: Blues Brothers - Once again, Dustin Garrett and Jason Fellers will amaze you with their fantastic rendition of the Blues Brothers. Their appearance in June was acclaimed as one of the best shows ever produced at the Cactus Theater. If you're a fan of the classic Blues Brothers movie, this is the show for you! This show features songs made famous by Aretha, Cab Calloway, and many others. Get your tickets early--this one is guaranteed to leave standing room only. Begins 6th Year with Auditions!


Bring your budding star and watch them grow in their talents and skills. Classes in acting, dance and musical theatre as well as private voice lessons and dance lessons. There is something for all ability levels and ages. Auditions will be held for their nationally recognized advanced performance team on Sat. Aug. 25th and Thursday, Aug. 30th. The team will be competing in January at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, performing “The Little Mermaid Jr". in the spring and traveling to New York City next summer.
