Amanda Shires (Indie/Country/Singer/Songwriter with roaring Fiddle Music) - The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another hot summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and modern environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. FREE to the public. July 27....2nd Annual Lubbock Community Theatre Fundraiser: “An Evening with Oscar" - Enjoy a musical tribute to Oscar-winning films produced by Lubbock Community Theatre. Featuring Evan Onstot as the Master of Ceremonies and some of our most talented performers. Your evening will include a silent auction featuring products and services from many of your favorite Lubbock businesses, a sit down dinner and fantastic entertainment. Email Jay C. July 27….Marty Raybon in Concert
- Cindy Hughlett Music Ministry & KSSL 94.1 and 107.3 along with The Texas Boys Ranch are co-hosting an evening concert featuring country music artist Marty Raybon. This concert performance will be produced into the featured artist segments of the 2012 Texas Boy’s Ranch Telethon. July 27….Doo-Wop Meets The Instrumental Hits of the '50s & '60s - There's no better group of singers and musicians anywhere to present doo-wop at its finest! The big doo-wop hits of the 50's and 60's combined with the huge instrumental favorites will be a show everyone's talking about. Join Jason Fellers, Jeff Bailey, West Garza, Mark Paden and the Lubbock Texas Rhythm Machine as they perform doo-wop, West Texas Style! We'll have a slew of big instrumental hits from groups like The Ventures, Bill Doggett, The Fireballs, Sandy Nelson, and even some "Wipeout"/Surfin" instrumental hits! July 27-29….The Lubbock Meals on Wheels Tennis Tournament
- Once again, the tournament is being hosted by area country clubs (Hillcrest, LakeRidge, Lubbock, & The Falls) and the McLeod Tennis Center at Texas Tech and Burgess Rushing Tennis Center. The events include men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Once again, there is a junior tournament for players age 18 and under. The junior tournament is singles only. Due to the large number of entries, adult matches will begin on Friday, July 27. Also on Friday, players are invited to The Falls Tennis & Athletic Club for check-in, door prizes, and dinner. A casual dinner will be donated by Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Play continues on Saturday and Sunday, and the weekend of events closes with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m., Sunday at The Falls. Awards will be presented for first, second, and third place winners in both the adult and junior tournaments and refreshments will be served. The tournament directors are Jacque Hopkins and Eric Huntley and the tournament referees are Eva and Clifford Hopping. The entry fee, which includes invitations for two to the Friday evening events and a tournament t-shirt is $35 per person and $15 for the second event for adults, and $35 per person for the juniors. The entry and payment deadline is Wednesday, July 25. A $5 fee will be charged to anyone paying after the deadline. Payments can be made to Lubbock Meals on Wheels by cash, check, or credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover). July 28….Lubbock Downtown Farmers Market - Thank You to all involved in the July 14th market...truly the best DAM to date. The kickoff to the farmers market season was a huge success! Lots of vendors, lots of folks and lots of fun made this a truly special event. Now to keep this up and get ready for next season, we are having the second July market. This Saturday the 28th you can come see what all the hoopla was about. Beginning this month and continuing through the end of season in October, the market will be open twice every month on the second and fourth Saturdays. That's twice the chances to come see and purchase the finest in local art and the freshest in locally produced foods and produce. We'll have most of the same growers we had on the 14th plus a few new ones including Tall Cotton Kettle Corn and Lonestar Lemonade, and Crazy Hoe Farms. Lots of fresh produce and foods. We had a lot of sell-outs in cheese, eggs and produce, so if you're looking for something special, you might want to be here at opening. Visit lubbockdowntownfarmersmarket.com/ for more information. July 28….Singles Only Stuff ("SOS") Membership Drive and Good Times Get-Together
– Come and join the "SOS" group for hamburgers and hot dogs at Hillcrest Country Club. Cost is $12 per person , includes tax and gratuity...cash only please! (No swimming, just enjoy friends and the scenery). "SOS" is an adult singles group of age 45 years and older who are always looking for new and exciting events to participate in and attend with others. We are not a dating service but a group of friends that like to do things with other singles. You can always pick and choose the activities that best fit your lifestyle and interests, as well as your calendar. There is no membership fee, just pay for the events you choose to participate in. We do such things as picnics, plays, ice cream socials, game nights, movies, Tech basketball games, spook houses, soup swaps, pot lucks, music events, and the list goes on. We all love to eat! We meet for dinner (6:30 p.m.) at a designated restaurant on the first Thursday of every month. We also have a breakfast club that meets monthly on a Saturday morning for breakfast (9:30 a.m.). We always have fun and it is so refreshing to be able to enjoy other singles in a social atmosphere.
