July 19….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series: Mariachi Amistad (Traditional Mariachi)
- The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another hot summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and modern environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. FREE to the public. There is a cash bar and beverages available for purchase. Please, no outside beverages are allowed in the venue. Buddy Holly Center, Meadows Courtyard, 1801 Crickets Avenue. Event takes place from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

July 19 – 20….Hub Performing Arts School Advanced Musical Theatre Campers - Broadway Bound: “Fame Jr.” - This fun musical will take you back to the 80s and make you sing along to songs from the movie and the TV show! Bring your lawn chairs and money for snacks. Tickets are just $5. Show is fun for the entire family. Tickets will be sold at the event or can be purchased from show members or at Hub Performing Arts School by calling 795-7344. Vintage Township Founders Park, 11410 Trafalgar Ave; 7:30 p.m.

July 20, 21 (Repeats July 27, 28)….Saloon Drama Series at the Cactus Theater: "Dooley’s Back at Belle’s" - Set in Belle’s Saloon in Dry Gulch, Texas, in the late 1800’s, Tom Dooley, an outlaw and bank robber, has been released from jail and been through rehabilitation becoming the town preacher. Everyone loves the change he’s been through but the town deputy is not convinced and later, with no witnesses, Dooley confirms the deputy’s suspicions. In fact, the deputy learns Dooley plans to rob and then burn down Belle’s Saloon, leaving her destitute. Dooley’s plan solidifies and Belle’s place is threatened.. that is, until Dooley makes one tiny mistake. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved at 806.762.3233. ….Lubbock Moonlight Musicals: "Fiddler on the Roof" - The Tony Award® winning musical that has captured the hearts of people all over the world with its universal appeal will be hosted at the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre. Lubbock Moonlight Musicals is proud to feature our own esteemed General Director, Gerald Dolter, in the lead role of Tevye! Joined by his talented wife, Karen Dolter, as Golde, "Fiddler on the Roof"is a production not to be missed. Your heart will break watching the tale of Tevye the Milkman as he confronts the battle for tradition that has held his family together for generations. Featuring such memorable songs as “Tradition”, "If I Were A Rich Man", “Far from the Home I Love”, “Sunrise Sunset” and “Do You Love Me?” This rousing, heartwarming musical with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick is sure to be a electrifying and unforgettable experience. All summer performances will be outdoors in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in beautiful Mackenzie Park. The audience is encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and personal lawn chairs or blankets. Seating is on grassy terraces. Tickets are $28 for preferred seating (in the center) and $20 for general admission seating on the sides. July 21….Lubbock County 4-H Dog Dip and Shot Clinic - You can protect your dogs from fleas and ticks, save money, and support the Lubbock County 4-H Teen Council by getting your dogs dipped for $5 at this fundraiser. All dogs must be on a leash. A local veterinarian will also be available for dog and cat shots for a nominal fee. Shallowater School Annex, Ave L and FM 1294 in Shallowater; 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.

July 21….Saturday at The Museum: Photography - The Museum of Texas Tech is hosting a free to the public come-and-go event in conjunction with the exhibition Memories of World War II. There will be a Photo Scavenger Hunt where participants are encouraged to bring their own camera. Cameras will not be provided. See www.depts.ttu.edu/museumttu/event.html for more information. July 21….“Our Paws Give Back” – Above and Beyond Pet Care Hospital and Pet Resort will be hosting their first annual charity event benefitting South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. This event will have a carnival theme including games, raffles, barbeque, and “Dunk the Doctor.” Bring the whole family. For more information call 806.792.7297. July 21….Ice Cream Dreams and Butterfly Wings - Join the Garden and Arts Center and the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum as they celebrate summer in the gardens of beautiful Clapp Park with an ice cream party and a butterfly and ladybug release in the Arboretum wildflower gardens, and live music by Wade Parks! Admission to this event is free. Lubbock Municipal Garden and Arts Center, 4215 University Ave; 5:30 p.m.- 7 p.m.

July 23...."Pickleball" in the Park - The public is invited to come learn "the fun game with the funny name" this Monday (and every Monday) at the tennis courts on the east side of Leroy Elmore Park. "Pickleball" is a great game enjoyed by folks of all ages and resembles playing ping pong on a downsized tennis court...with paddles and a Wiffle ball. A regular group of players has been gathering weekly for over 7 years...having fun and enjoying this exciting game together. Come see what this great game can offer...and don't be shy...everyone will welcome you and is eager to share the fun! Don't worry about bringing equipment...the group has plenty to share. Just bring yourself and tennis shoes and you're good to go! So get off the couch and come share in the fun while you get some great exercise and meet some new friends in the process. The group gathers on the east side of Leroy Elmore Park (Peoria Ave) near Quaker, inside South Loop 289, around 7:45 p.m.

"SOS" Singles Group Announces Event and Membership Drive!

Single and looking to meet new friends? Mark your calendars now! Come and join the Lubbock Fun Club's "SOS" group for hamburgers and hot dogs at Hillcrest Country Club. Cost is $12 per person, includes tax and gratuity...cash only please! (No swimming, just enjoy friends and the scenery). "SOS" is an adult singles group of age 45 years and older who are always looking for new and exciting events to participate in and attend with others. We are not a dating service but a group of friends that like to do things with other singles. You can always pick and choose the activities that best fit your lifestyle and interests, as well as your calendar. There is no membership fee, just pay for the events you choose to participate in. We do such things as picnics, plays, ice cream socials, game nights, movies, Tech basketball games, spook houses, soup swaps, pot lucks, music events, and the list goes on and on! We meet for dinner (6:30 p.m.) at a designated restaurant on the first Thursday of every month. We also have a breakfast club that meets monthly on a Saturday morning for breakfast (9:30 a.m.). We always have fun and it is so refreshing to be able to enjoy other singles in a social atmosphere.
