June 14….Buddy Holly Center Summer Showcase Concert Series: Jazz Alley (Variety) - The Buddy Holly Center is gearing up for another hot summer of music and fun with the annual Summer Showcase Concert Series May 31st – August 30th. The Summer Showcase experience is an entertaining and modern environment, where patrons can enjoy original and unique Texas-made music. FREE to the public. June 15-16....Waylon Jennings Birthday Bash - This is the first annual event to be held in Whiteface, Texas. Featuring Shooter Jennings, Whiskey Meyers, Jackson Taylor & the Sinners, William Clark Green, Rowdy Johnson Band, Jimmy Miles, Sergio and the Outta Luck Band, and Tommy Jennings. The event will benefit the Waylon Fund for Diabetes Research at TGen. The Waylon Jennings Birthday Bash 2012 will kickoff on Friday June 15th with the Whiteface Volunteer Fire Department hosting a barbecue brisket cookoff. A car show will be held at the Whiteface school grounds in conjunction with the Birthday Bash. A motorcycle run is also planned. You can get more information about these events and vendors by calling the City of Whiteface at (806) 287-1111. The main event concert will be Saturday, June 16th on the grounds of the old cotton gin located at State Hwy. 114 and Hayes Street. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. and the concert is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Concert tickets are $20.00 per person in advance or $25.00 at the gate. Children under age 10 get in free. Tickets go on sale at noon on May 1st, and will be available online at texaslovestickets.com, at Waymore’s in Littlefield, and all Ralph’s Records locations. Whiteface is located 45 miles west of Lubbock on Texas State Hwy. 114.

Then you must come see Disney’s My Son, Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Musical Tale under Lubbock's stunning night sky at the Wells Fargo Amphitheatre this June! Grammy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz composes vibrant new music for this timeless Disney tale of a wooden puppet who wishes to be a real boy. Disney’s My Son, Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Musical Tale features classics such as “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings.” The twist with this stage version of the Pinocchio story is that it is narrated from Geppetto’s point of view! Re-discover this charming tale all over again and share it with those you love. All summer performances will be outdoors in the Wells Fargo Amphitheater in beautiful Mackenzie Park. June 16….South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center Bi-Annual Open House - The wildlife ambassadors will be out and about for you to meet. June 16….Cactus Theater: Marcia Ball in Concert - This American blues singer and pianist, born in Orange, Texas, has been described in USA Today as "a sensation, a saucy singer and superb pianist...where Texas stomp-rock and Louisiana blues-swamp meet." The Boston Globe described her music as "an irresistible celebratory blend of rollicking, two-fisted New Orleans piano, Louisiana swamp-rock and smoldering Texas blues from a contemporary storyteller." June 17….Westwinds Brass Band Concert in the Park – Come and enjoy an old fashioned Concert In the Park, performed by the Westwinds Brass Band. Traditional brass band music, marches, overtures, outstanding soloists, and our traditional favorite...the kid's march. Bring your blankets & lawn chairs and enjoy an hour of fun music-- maybe even a picnic supper! Concerts are sponsored by the Tech Terrace Neighborhood Association. June 15 – August 15….Civil War Era Drawings from the Becker Collection - The Becker Archive contains approximately 650 hitherto unexhibited and documented drawings by Joseph Becker and his colleagues, 19th centruy artists who worked as artist reporters for Frank Leslie’s Illustrated Newspaper observing, drawing, and sending back for publication images of the Civil War, the construction of the railroads, the laying of the transatlantic cable in Ireland, the Chinese in the West, the Indian wars, the Chicago fire, and other aspects of the 19th century American culture. This exhibition is a stellar selection from this wealth of Civil War Era images. Museum of Texas Tech, 3301 4th St.

June 16 - November 18….Museum of Texas Tech: Celebrating Our Heroes Exhibits - The following exhibits offer a world of opportunity to learn and celebrate the achievements and sacrifices of our American military personnel. Exhibits rotate out so make time to stop by and share this important legacy with your family and children so they, too, can appreciate those who served in our nation's service so that these opportunities would be available to future generations! June 16 - August 15 - Peter Hurd World War II Sketches, Gallery 5. A collection of 120 works by artist Peter Hurd related to his wartime experience.

June 16 - August 15 - Honor Wall for Veterans, Gallery 101. Display of the names of veterans with the opportunity to add names.

June 18- 29….Hub Performing Arts School Voice Camp - Take your sight reading, vocal performance and theory skills to the next level at this great camp taught by local choir teachers and performers. All Region music for middle school and high school will be taught and individual instruction will be given to all campers. Campers will work with Francisco Rendon, our voice instructor at Hub and talented opera performer. Francisco, a native Texan and Texas Tech graduate is honored to be a part of Hub Theatre Group's production of "Next to Normal." As Music Director of the show, Francisco has been involved in the vocal training, coaching, and musical interpretation for many of the Lubbock cast in the Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt rock musical. Francisco is an accomplished opera singer with many engagements to his credit and roles including: Rodolfo in La Boheme, Rinuccio and Gherrardo Gianni Schicci Tibaldo in I Capuletti e I Montecchi, tenor soloist in Mozart's Requiem, Stravinsky's Les Noces, and Haydn's Maria Theresia Mass. When off the stage, Francisco is the music director and voice teacher for Hub Performing Arts School.
